Year 9 Drama

Year 9 have spent the majority of this term looking at playbuilding. Students have been working in groups to create an original performance that looks at a social issue of interest and relevance to them. They have been introduced to a range of dramatic and choreographic conventions that they can incorporate into their scenes, in order to present their ideas in an innovative and engaging way for an audience. Next term, students will begin work on a scripted drama to be performed at the end of the year. 

Year 10 Drama

In Year 10 Drama, students have been working on a scripted drama play that they will perform early in Term 4. Students have been learning about the rehearsal process, script analysis and how to create a complex character. The focus of this term is on students building their own performance skills and learning how to approach a script in creative and innovative ways, including the incorporation of screen performance.

Year 11 Drama

This term, Year 11 Drama students have been focusing on their study of Theatrical Traditions and Performance Styles. They have been studying the theatre practitioner Bertolt Brecht and the dramatic conventions and theatrical techniques of Epic Theatre. Students have applied Brechtian conventions to a scripted drama and when devising their own group scenes. 

Sydney Drama Trip

On Wednesday 24 August, Drama students travelled by coach to Sydney for a fast paced overnight excursion. Upon arrival the group the matinee of Moulin Rouge. Students were in awe of the production from the amazing set and costumes to the performance skills and energy on display from the show’s performers. After a quick dinner stop at Pitt Street Mall, students travelled to their accommodation to get ready for a night at the Sydney Opera House to see the musical production of Fangirls. 

There was laughter, tears and some unexpected surprises when the performers came out and mingled with the audience during the interval. The next day, students travelled to NIDA to find out about the tertiary and short courses they have available, and participated in either a voice and movement workshop or a group devising workshop conducted by industry professionals. The excursion provided many new experiences and the students had an amazing time in the process.
