Mission
Student Representative Council
This week, our Student Representative Council members have been actively engaged in selling badges and merchandise in support of Legacy - Wagga. The Legacy Week Appeal has been running since the 1940s and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country. The Legacy badge is a special emblem of support for veterans’ families, symbolising our nation’s greatest values of mateship, compassion and fairness.
On Tuesday, our members had the opportunity to meet with Ms Ana Suarez, the new Schools and Youth Engagement Officer (Southern Region) for St Vincent de Paul. She spoke to them about the valuable contributions our school community continues to make to the work of Vinnies in the Riverina region. Ms Suarez also promoted the opportunity for students to give of themselves in service initiatives outside of school at the Vinnies stall at the Wagga Wagga Show and in the activities of the Wagga Wagga Youth Conference.
Our SRC students discussed the ways in which they can contribute to the upcoming initiatives of Socktober, in support of our Year 7 Religious Education program. They also had the opportunity to hear from Mrs Thomas about the additions to our College Uniform, view some samples and provide valuable feedback from the student perspective.
Socktober - Charitable Fundraising during Mission Month
Catholic Mission, as the Australian agency of the Pontifical Mission Societies, contributes funding and provides project support to critical church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America as well as remote dioceses within Australia. Grassroots needs are identified by local Catholics, to give people the opportunity for a full, enriched life—physically and spiritually—regardless of race, stigma, religion or gender.
Socktober is an initiative of Catholic Mission that cultivates the passion of students to rise up, engage their local community and take action against poverty through the world game of soccer. It provides young people in Australia with the opportunity to involve themselves in the mission of the Church, encouraging them to think not only of what they will do to help but why they will do it.
During Mission Month, we will be supporting our students to engage in classroom and school-based activities which will connect them with this global mission initiative.
Year 7 Religious Education will incorporate thought-provoking workshops, the creative activity of making a sock ball and host a Socktober Shootout competition to raise funds.
In 2022, students and their families across Australia will raise funds to support families in Ethiopia facing malnutrition and food insecurity.
Our projects on the ground will help sustain and enrich the lives of vulnerable children who are in need of our support. Your support will keep them running.
National Child Protection Week 4 - 10 September 2022
In National Child Protection Week we pray for the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people.
Jesus beckoned, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them” (Mark 10:14). As a community, we pray that nothing will stop our children from being safe and supported, always and everywhere.
A Prayer for Children
Loving God,
We thank you for the care and affection of Jesus, who placed children at the very centre of his community.
We pray for children, created in your own image and likeness, dwelling places of your Spirit, each one called to experience the freedom of your daughters and sons.
We pray for all children – those in our family homes, those in our community of faith, those in the wider community, those in our global village, those with plenty and those who struggle to survive.
We yearn for the day when all children may know safety and freedom and protection from violence and abuse, when they may bask in constant love, safe from any harm,
where they may flourish and be all they can be.
God of all goodness, we hope in you.
Inspire us to surround others with gentleness and love and empower us to build a world that no longer knows abuse and violence.
Grant us courage to speak out and act when children need protection, care and shelter.
We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
