Stage 3 Excursion

On Monday morning we got on the bus and set off on our Stage 3 excursion.  On the way to Coffs, we stopped at Dorrigo where we went on a beautiful walk around the rainforest guided by John and Aleisha.  Towards the end of the walk, we were lucky enough to see a lyrebird sitting on a vine.  After some lunch, we then got back on the bus and headed for the Coffs Adventure Centre.  Upon arrival, we were greeted by instructor Shannon and shown to our dorms.  Followed by dinner and dessert, we ventured out in the dark with our headlights on, to play a game of “Capture the Flag’.  After some intense rounds, the Dingoes won by one point.

The next morning, we were split into three groups, and completed activities such as the giant swing, the zipline and some team building activities.  After each group completed these activities, it was time for the commando course!  Each team had the task of working together to get their team through each of the obstacles.  Mrs Deiderick and Miss Cullen enjoyed watching from the sideline and witnessing the many face plants into the mud! After some warm showers to clean off, we enjoyed another great meal prepared by our chef Tim.  After dinner, we enjoyed some ‘Minute to Win it’ challenges.

On Wednesday morning, we said goodbye to the Coffs Adventure Centre and hello to the Big Banana.  With the park nearly to ourselves, we enjoyed numerous turns at the giant slide and then went on to have a couple of turns on the toboggans.  After some lunch, we set off for home.

Overall, it was an amazing trip that was filled with lots of fun and adrenaline pumping activities.  Thanks again to Mrs Deiderick, Mr Laurie and Miss Cullen for accompanying Stage 3 on their excursion.

The Stage 3 camp was amazing this year! The best thing we did was the Big Banana. On the last morning of camp, we went to the Big Banana, where we did the toboggans and the giant slide. The whole class had fun on both.

My time at camp was amazing! My favourite activity was the zipline with the wind blowing in your face. In our free time, I mostly played in the gaga pit. Chef Tim made some great food and for dessert we had cheesecake and pavlova that were both delicious!

My favourite part of the excursion was the zipline and the mud run. The chef Timmy was really nice and made good spaghetti and cheesecake. The Big Banana was also lots of fun!

The best part of camp was when we did the mud run. Oh, how gooey and sticky it was at the end when we did the mud mile. The amount of mud and grass that I mopped up after showers was so yuck!

I enjoyed walking around the Dorrigo rainforest and when it was really quiet, we could listen to the beautiful sounds of nature.

I had a fun time at camp! We did lots of activities and my favourite being the commando course. During this course, we had to climb over and go under lots of different things and swim through a lot of mud!

You Can Do It

This fortnight we will be focusing on what it looks like to use a positive habit of the mind when being resilient.

Negative Habits of the Mind to Eliminate to Help Build Emotional Resilience

Self-Downing – thinking that you are useless or a total failure when you have been rejected or have not achieved a good result (replace with Accepting Myself).

Accepting Myself– not thinking badly about myself when I make a mistake.

Things to Say to Encourage Emotional Resilience

When you catch a young person being emotionally resilient, say:

“That was great. You didn’t let yourself get too angry.”

“When I raised my voice with you earlier today, I noticed that while you were upset, you weren’t furious. Knowing how to control your temper is a great skill to have.”

“You seem to really have learned how not to get too nervous and to relax before exams. That will help you be successful.”

“You really controlled your nerves when you gave that speech.”

“You see, talking with someone about the problem can help you feel less upset.”

“You didn’t let that setback stop you from trying. Great!”

“You really are learning that sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never hurt you.”

“You seem not to have blown that event out of proportion. That helps you to be in control.”

“You really seem to know the meaning of ‘resilience.’”

“Even though you haven’t made the team yet, you seem to have a really positive outlook.”
