Student Exchange Programs
WEP Australia runs overseas student exchange programs for students between the ages of 15 – 18. You may elect to go overseas for a semester or up to one year. Some restrictions apply and students must meet the academic and personality requirements, as well as be physically and emotionally healthy.
An exchange program can benefit the student in a number of ways, while they are learning skills for life. Students live with a host family, attend school full time, experience new cultures and may even learn a new language. If this sounds like you, go to https://wep.org.au for further information.
Scholarship Application Top Tips
Most universities offer scholarships to eligible students. There are a number of different types of scholarships, and they are not all based on academic ability. Access and Equity scholarships exist to help students who may find it challenging to attend university for a number of reasons eg. financial hardship. When applying for scholarships, students are asked a series of questions. Here are some hot tips:
- What is the question asking you to do? How many parts are there to the question? What do they want to know about YOU?
- The reader wants to know YOUR academic ability, YOUR commitment to your chosen course of study, YOUR ability and focus, that YOU are future focused and display capacity for leadership. Your response must be thoughtful, passionate, demonstrate a clear goal and strong purpose.
- The 'judges' want to find out about YOU as a person - what YOUR goals and hopes are. People with a definite plan or a sense of direction are more likely to persist with their course of study - this is important when making a decision to award a scholarship.
- They also want to know if you have researched what the degree or program is about: what will you learn from it? How much do you know about it? What will you bring to the program?
- Everyone is smart and ambitious. But the point is to tell your own story. Why does the course interest YOU? What do YOU hope to achieve? What do YOU have to offer?
