From the Classroom
PE
Senior students have been practicing their cricket skills through games such as ‘Wana’. The young Noongar girls in the southwest of Western Australia played many skill games. In one of these a short stick was placed on the ground and girls attempted to hit the stick while one girl defended it using her wana (digging stick).
You Can Do It
Grade 2 students have been learning yoga as part of the Mindfulness strategies discussed in last weeks' newsletter.
Art
In Art, we have been anticipating spring and focused on bees and blossoms in terms of our artistic motifs. Students in years 3 – 5 have made quirky bee characters to decorate the flower fields painted by our year 1 – 3 students based on the story: “The Honeybee” by Kirsten Hall. Years 4 – 6 are currently working on a large collaborative art display making fine patterns on painted feathers with white fine liners. Our Foundation students have created colourful trees with sparkly tape and blossoms practising their scissor skills. Their trees are on display in the learning street.
