Last Wednesday, Year 5 went to Sovereign Hill and Log Cabin Camp in Creswick for a 3-day camp. We spent all of Wednesday at Sovereign Hill and watched the AURA sound and light show after an early dinner at camp. On Thursday and Friday morning we participated in different activities to build our resilience, independence, social skills, and leadership skills.
On reflection, I enjoyed camp very much. I learnt a lot, and forged many friendships, but most importantly I had fun! It was a great experience and the teachers behaved very well. I learnt how to be extra patient when making my perfect Damper and faced my big fear of HEIGHTS on the zipline and Leap of Faith. Overall, it was great fun and a really good experience.

Wow! Camp was just amazing. Everything was so fun to do. The food… Oh don’t even get me started on the food, it was excellent and delicious. I got a great cabin with lots of my friends, I also got to know some other girls better too. Panning for gold at Sovereign Hill was awesome, especially when I found some specs of gold! The confectionary demonstration was a highlight because we got to try the old-fashioned lollies. I loved camp, I could do it a thousand times more.

This year we will celebrate Book Week in our classrooms. We have purchased a lovely selection of CBC nominated books and classroom teachers are sharing these books with their students. Look out for nominated books in your local library. The themes explored often initiate discussions and lead to further investigations about a topic or issue raised in a story.
Instead of our Book Fair and Grandparent’s Day events being held during Book Week, these events will now be held in Term Four.
Happy reading.

In Term 2, as part of our Humanities unit on what makes a good community, the Year 3 and 4 students showed off their persuasive writing skills, composing letters to Hadi Saab, the Mayor of Kingston Council. Mayor Hadi Saab was so impressed with the well-supported ideas the students had on community improvement, that he has organised to visit Cheltenham East Primary School next month to speak to the students in person. It was fabulous for the students to recognise that, no matter their age, they can have a voice in their community and what better way to do this than by using their persuasive writing skills!
