Sustainability

Five stars

We are thrilled to announce that our school has achieved the prestigious Five-Star Sustainable School accreditation! This accomplishment is a testament to our commitment to embedding sustainability in every aspect of our educational journey.

A Five-Star Sustainable School is a school that has achieved the highest level of sustainability accreditation, indicating that sustainability principles are deeply embedded in its culture, practices, and operations. This recognition showcases the school's exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and community engagement.

A massive thank you to Lucy Gill and Graeme McWhirter for their outstanding hard work and dedication in leading our school towards achieving the Five-Star Sustainable School accreditation, last year. Your vision and passion for sustainability have been truly inspiring, and we couldn't have done it without you!

Special appreciation goes to the Green Team for their tireless efforts last year in implementing sustainable practices throughout the school. You've shown incredible commitment to minimizing waste, saving energy and water, promoting biodiversity, and taking action on climate change. Your contributions have made a significant impact on our school's sustainability journey.

Lastly, thank you Sarah De Jong, for your meticulous documentation and completion of the accreditation modules. Your attention to detail has been invaluable in showcasing our ongoing progress and a true leader in the sustainability space.

Let us celebrate this accomplishment and embark on the next chapter of our sustainability journey with renewed determination and passion.

Fundraisers

Join us in our mission to reduce plastic waste in the ocean and support our school by participating in our Bamboo Toothbrush Fundraiser!  For just $10, you can get a set of four eco-friendly bamboo toothbrushes, perfect for your whole family or $2.50 for individual purchase. Not only will you be helping the environment, but half of every toothbrush sale will also go directly to our school to support educational initiatives and activities.

Visit us every Monday after school from 3:30 to 3:40 to grab your bamboo toothbrush set and make a positive impact on our planet. Our Green Team members will be there to answer any questions you may have about the fundraiser or the importance of reducing plastic waste.

But that's not all! In addition to the toothbrushes, we'll also have freshly harvested rosemary and parsley from our very own Kitchen Garden available for just $1 each. These herbs will add a delightful touch to your culinary creations while promoting sustainable practices and supporting our sustainability program. Our worms have also been working hard in our compost bins and we have lots of worm juice for sale. If you have any small bottles for us to use, please bring them with you.

Kindergarten Visit

The Green Team visited the Craig Centre to conduct an engaging scavenger hunt for the three and four-year-old kinder group on Thursday and Friday last week. They learned to spot colourful bugs, identify various plants and flowers, and explore different terrains like soft grass, rough rocks, and squishy mud. The excitement was evident as the youngsters discovered the wonders of the natural world, creating a deep connection to the environment from an early age. The Green Team's passion and knowledge left a lasting impression, inspiring these young minds to cherish and protect our beautiful world.

PLASTIC FREE JULY

We want to thank all the students and staff who actively participated in our "SOLWAY IS A NATIONAL PARK" initiative during Plastic Free July®. Your dedication to reducing plastic waste and preserving the environment is truly commendable. By taking your plastic waste home instead of using the school bins, you demonstrated a commitment to leaving no trace of our presence, just like in our cherished National Parks. We appreciate your efforts in making Solway a more sustainable and eco-friendly place.
