Speed Date Your Career

National Skills Week 2023

Our year 10 students participated in Careers Speed Dating!

Students were placed in groups of 10, and had 8 minutes to ask probing career questions to our willing interviewees. After 8 minutes the interviewees moved to the next table and were interviewed by a new table of students. This continued until all interviewees had rotated through each group.

Our wonderful students gained interview skills and confidence, all while learning about new career areas. What’s not to love?

Our willing interviewees were two VET Alumni who volunteered their time to speak to our students: Paul Tran (Carpenter and Business Owner), Heikma Siraj (Business Professional and Director of Salvation Army Employment Plus).

We thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedules.

Also participating were Timothy Cottrell (Education Professional), Tegan Webber (Library Technician) and Matt Tucker (Musician, HR Professional and Educator).

Thank you everyone for contributing to our year 10 students’ career education.

Law Immersion Day at Latrobe University

Law Immersion Day at Latrobe University.

In a lecture theatre and the Moot Court. Nikita in the witness box being cross examined by the prosecution, Jenny and Amira.

Out the front of the Latrobe University Library.

The students had a wonderful deep dive into a university student’s experience of studying Law and Criminology.

It was a very stimulating day with all students enjoying their time.

Thank you Latrobe.

Nature-based orienteering - Whittlesea Council  27/9/23

Like normal orienteering, participants will navigate around a course to several checkpoints, but at these checkpoints (markers hidden in the bush), participants will use clues given to solve some nature-based puzzles. The aim for groups is to complete the course in the fastest time with the correct answers! Groups can be up to 5 people and can be a mix of adults and children. The course will need to be completed within 2 hrs.....or we come looking for you!

Two sessions will be run, the first starting at 9.30 am and the afternoon session starting at 12.30 pm. The first 30 minutes will involve a briefing of the course before beginning the Orienteering. Hot/cold drinks and biscuits will be available for participants at the completion of the course.

Nature Journaling - Whittlesea Council                   28/8/23

Nature journaling is a guaranteed way to slow down and develop care and connection to the plants and animals all around you.

We’ll teach you techniques that are used by explorers, inventors and naturalists to improve the quality of their observations. They are fun and engaging to use and exercise different parts of the brain. You’ll come away with a template of best practices to use again and again on your own nature journaling adventures.

Nature Journaling is for EVERYONE - you can walk as much or little as you like and can sit or stand so it’s perfect for those with limited mobility. It will include some basic drawing, but you don’t need to have any special art skills to do it. All you need is a pencil, a notebook and loads of curiosity.

Living Green Events - Whittlesea Council

Was one of your goals to be more environmentally conscious this year? Now is your chance! Applications are now open for the City of Whittlesea Nature Stewards spring program, which will run from Saturday 16 September to Saturday 2 December.

This 10-week course run by Victorian National Parks Association, with support from local councils, will equip participants with the skills and knowledge they need to help protect our natural environment.

Under expert guidance, Nature Stewards study a range of topics including local ecosystems, plant names and caring for native animals.

During this introductory educational program, you will be able to connect with your community and discover more about your local environment. Field trips into bushland areas, such as Quarry Hills Parkland, will teach practical techniques and offer valuable experience that may lead to future volunteer opportunities.
