Our grade 3/4 students headed off to Phillip Island for camp on Wednesday 19th July until Friday 21st. Below are some student reflections from a very successful and fun few days away.
Term 3 in Music sees all year levels taking part in a unit of work on the music elements before we turn our attention to Festival on the Lawn before the end of the term. The date for festival on the lawn is Friday 1st December.
Song of the year 80s vs Current (2020 - present)
In Terms 2 and 3 this year all music classes have been starting each lesson by listening and interacting with 2 songs and then voting for one of the songs. The teachers and school staff also get a vote. The winning songs are the school’s bell music and songs are removed from the bell music when they lose.
We will eliminate songs until a winner is chosen. The theme for this vote is 80s vs Current (2020s – present).
Here is the chart that will update each week after the votes are counted - 2023 song of the year - 80s vs Current (2020 - present)
With 3 weeks to go, here is where we are at.

With 5 plays to be presented it was always going to be a big night for the drama students and their excited audience of friends and family. From a trip to Mars to the ancient Greek tale of Peresphone there was plenty of variety in the stories being told.
A big thank you must go to the supportive parents for their help with costumes, a great after party and especially to Mike Kolody for the amazing backdrops which took the visual element of the plays to a whole new level.
First up were the Grade 2 drama students. Only 6 months into their drama adventures these children showed great courage getting up and performing for a large audience. Unfortunately 2 of them were ill on the night and couldn’t participate. Hopefully the play will be performed again at a later date with the full cast and we thank the two students who stepped into those roles with less than 24 hours notice.
Next we had a Grade 3/4 set on Mars. All the actors played their parts well and had the audience laughing at the humorous lines. The costumes and set looked out of this world.
From Mars we headed to the Jungle where a Grade 5/6 drama class were trainee spies and some of them were up to no good. This very experienced group had come up with the storyline and their own characters and presented a confident performance of an original play.
From the Jungle we headed to Caesar’s palace where a group of grade 3/4 students showed us that it doesn’t pay to mess with Caesar’s sister. This play was performed well with some great humour and dramatic moments.
And finally we headed to the world of the Greeks and the story of the seasons – Persephone. The grade 5/6 students that performed this 12 scene play did a remarkable job of learning lines, playing multiple parts, remembering props and changing scenes. This was quite a sophisticated play that these seasoned actors handled very well.
My thanks go finally to the amazing drama students who put in so much energy and effort and created a great night for themselves and their audience.
Well done all of you!

On Wednesday the 19th of July 2023, our school's Mixed Netball team showcased their skills and sportsmanship at the School Sports Victoria (SSV) Gippsland Regional Mixed Netball competition in Sale. The team included: Amelia M, Isla C, Aleera D, Isla J, Hannah K, Abel L-B, Seth O, Evan S, and Otis S (unfortunately absent due to illness).
The event brought together school teams from across Gippsland, to compete for the title of School Sports Victoria (SSV) Gippsland Mixed Netball Champions. The day was filled with excitement as our team showcased their passion for the sport and their commitment to representing Trafalgar Primary School. They approached every match with enthusiasm and played exceptionally well, impressing everyone with their resilience and positive attitude. Despite facing tough competition, they held their own on the court and made everyone proud of their efforts in the process.
Unfortunately, our team did not take out the tournament. However, their participation in the regional competition is a testament to their talent and dedication. They have achieved a remarkable accomplishment in qualifying for this competition, which itself is a commendable feat. We look forward to supporting many of them once again, when they return to the court in 2024.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Coach Mel, for her unwavering support and guidance throughout the team’s journey this year. Her commitment to nurturing the talents of our students is truly commendable, and we thank her for instilling the values of teamwork and perseverance in our young athletes.
We also want to express our appreciation to all the parents and guardians who supported our students during this event. Your encouragement and presence at the competition meant a great deal to our team, and we thank you for being there every step of the way.
On Friday the 21st of July our school participated in an exciting AFL 9s tournament at Joe Tabuteau Reserve in Waterloo Road, Moe. This event was part of our expanded Sport and Physical Education program and offered a wonderful opportunity for our talented Grade 5-6 students to showcase their skills in a modified AFL format.
The AFL 9s tournament was jointly organized by AFL Victoria and School Sport Victoria (SSV). It aimed to explore the potential of the 9-a-side AFL competition on small-sided fields as a replacement for traditional AFL at future SSV Winter Sports carnivals.
Throughout the day, our students showcased their skills, determination, and passion for the game. Their enthusiasm for AFL was evident in every play, and they displayed excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field. Despite a bit of a mixed bag of results on the day, we were incredibly proud of how our students supported each other, encouraged their teammates, and showed great respect for their opponents and the officials.
As part of Trafalgar Primary School’s commitment to an expanded Sport and Physical Education program, all Foundation and Grade 1-2 students have had the opportunity to participate in four hip-hop dance classes this term. These classes have been delivered with support from Miss Amanda Fazzani from Dancepointe dance studio in Warragul.
Aside from being a fun and enjoyable activity, hip hop dance offers numerous benefits to young learners. Some of the advantages include improved balance, enhanced physical fitness, increased self-confidence, and a deeper appreciation for music and rhythm. It is also an excellent way for our students to develop their coordination, creativity, and self-expression.
We hope that you enjoyed the opportunity to watch our little stars shine at assembly this week. The entire school community was truly impressed with their captivating performance. We congratulate our young dancers on their outstanding performance, and look forward to witnessing more of their incredible talents in the future. Well done everyone! You truly rocked assembly!
We are thrilled to report that our first bike education session was an overwhelming success! The enthusiasm and energy from all the Grade 3-6 students was truly remarkable. All students confidently navigated the various challenges and exercises, showcasing their developing cycling skills in the process. We are eagerly looking forward to building upon this positive momentum in the upcoming sessions, ensuring that each child becomes a more responsible and confident cyclist.
Please note that due to the upcoming Student Free Day on Friday 11 August, our second Bike Ed session will no longer take place on that day. We will resume Bike Ed on the following days:
One of the ten principles that directs the Trafalgar Primary School Sport and Physical Education program is: Everyone in, nobody out: We respect and include each other, no matter our differences. As part of this, our school is always seeking to grow and support female participation in a range of Sport and Physical Education programs.
That’s why our school has partnered with Cricket Victoria to offer a free, 4-week Woolworths Cricket Blast program for all female students at Trafalgar Primary School in Term 3.
This school-based program will be run outside of school learning hours (after school) at absolutely zero cost to all participants. Each session, there will be games and activities designed to develop different cricket skills. All tailored to suit various levels of ability and experience.
Sessions will be run by Cricket Victoria, on the school oval from 3:30pm-4:30pm, so that students can come straight from class, on the following days:
Monday 21 August
Monday 28 August
Monday 4 September
Monday 11 September
There are no limits as to age, grade level, or number of girls who can participate. In fact, we want as many as possible!
