Division AFL Boys, Girls Soccer and Girls Fully Loaded Teeball

Last week, our Girls Soccer team, AFL Boys team and Girls Tee Ball team all advanced from the District competition to compete at the Division Championships.

Congratulations to our Girls Soccer team who remained undefeated throughout the competition and in their final game. In their grand final game, the girls consistently maintained the pressure on the opposing side, advancing the ball down at any opportunity. At first, they were down a goal early but some fantastic long shots from Gaby Saggin and Maddie Jayasuriya gave our team the upper hand, convincingly winning 5 goals to 2. We wish them all the best at the Eastern Regional Metropolitan Finals on Wednesday 16th August.

Well done to our AFL Boys teams who were also undefeated at the Division Championship. It was super impressive to see the stellar performance on the field with ferocious tackles, excellent grit in contested balls and sheer strength when making contested marks throughout the games. All pool games including their semi final were won convincingly. In their grand final matchup, there were some stellar smothers from Jeral Haj and excellent tackles by our “on-ball” players. Goals from both Noah Kavanagh in the first half gave a small lead. There was some strong marks from our team in the second half and in the end our boys won 2 goals 2 points to zero. We hope our boys' performance at the Division competition reflects their upcoming games at the Eastern Regional Championships on Tuesday 8th August at Knox Garden Reserve, Wantirna South.

St Simon Athletics Team

The Rowville District Athletics Competition will be on Friday 11th August in Term 3. Our St Simon’s District Athletics team has been finalised and Operoo permission forms have been sent out.

Selection within this team is based not only on the times and distances collected from our Year 3-6 Athletic Day but through tracks and field skills and measurements obtained within the Physical Education program. In addition, previous times and results from last year’s District Athletics competition will be taken into consideration during the selection.

We ask parents to keep an eye out for the Operoo permission form stating your child’s selection into the St Simon Athletics team.

Rowville District Inter School Sports

Summer Sports

This term on Friday 1st September and Friday 8th September, our Year 5 and 6 students will again represent the school at the District Summer Sports competition. The sports on offer for the Inter School Summer Sport competition include Hot Shots Tennis, Volleyball, T20 Blast Cricket, Fully Loaded Softball and European Handball.

Once again, our school has been permitted to submit additional teams in the Summer Sport competition. Therefore this has opened up the opportunity for all Year 5 and 6 students to attend both days as a competitor or supporting team member.

Teams will be announced and sent to all Year 5 and 6 parents next week by an Operoo email message.

Parent Coaches- Urgent

We need the help of at least 2 parent volunteers to support us as coaches for the following sport

  • T20 Cricket A Boys and B Boys
  • Hot Shots Tennis Boys and Girls
  • European Handball Boys and Girls.

This will allow our St Simon staff to supervise teams and provide first aid and guidance to students throughout the two days.

If you wish to support us with coaching a team or know of someone who can coach a team and is available to help out, please contact Mr Karl Camerino directly by email.

TEAM VIC HOCKEY: AARYA SHUNDRAVEL

Recently, Aarya Shundravel exceptional skills in hockey gave her the opportunity to be selected to be part of the SSV Team Victoria Under 12 Girls Hockey team. She recently partook in the team uniform ceremony, sporting the number 17 for Team Victoria. Over the last two terms, she has dedicated herself to training with the Victorian squad weekly to prepare herself for the School Sport Australia Hockey Championships from 30th July to the 4th August. We wish Aarya and her family travelling with her the very best as she represents Victoria at the School Sport Australia Hockey Championships.

Update: Aarya’s first game for Victoria against Tasmania ended in a big win, 3-0. In  her second day of games, Aarya played her best game so far and was awarded the best attacking player (Red bow as the bragging right). Today Aarya is on an excursion with the other state teams taking in the sights and bonding with other members of her team.
