Year 5 and 6 District Senior Basketball Competition

Well done to all our students and teams that competed at the Senior District Basketball Competition last Friday! Many of our teams were keen and determined to perform at their highest level with our All Star Boys and some of our Future Star teams winning a majority of their pool round robin games. It was great to see our Rookies learning about the rules and growing in their skills after each game. All teams showed amazing sportsmanship throughout their games.

A particular shout out to our St Simon Future Star 1 and Future Star 5 that made it to the quarter finals. In a tough battle on the court, our Future Star 1 team came up just short losing by 2 points. Our Future Star 5 team won their quarter final game using their free throws to edge themselves over their opponent to advance to the semi final. In their semi final, lockdown defence kept our side in the game but two final 3 minute goals from the opposition saw our team lose 8 points to 4. Overall, they should be proud of how much they accomplished in the day under the guidance of their coaches.

Congratulations to our All Star Boys whose tight defence and fast paced offence lead them to win five out of their six pool games. In their semi final, our boys played against Park Ridge and made a great effort to drive into the key and feed the ball inside, using their height to score high percentage points in the paint. Their win advanced them into the grand final. With a packed stadium cheering on the game, the boys kept their cool with the intense atmosphere around and on the court. Our boys got out to an early lead and continually created good shooting opportunities through accurate passing and driving to the basket. However, the opposition made a steady comeback to gradually be in front. Despite their effort to claw back the small deficit, their foul trouble in the dying minute allowed their opponent to seal a win. It was evident after the game how proud their parents, peers and coach Dale was with their game performance and Runner Up second place result.

A BIG THANK YOU to all our parent helpers during the day as coaches and scorers. A big part of our team’s success and enjoyment on the day is your positive encouragement and instruction on teamwork and strategy.
