In Literacy, learners have worked together to build their skills in reading, collaboration and communication. They rotate through a set of agreed roles (Summariser, Vocabulary Enricher, Literary Luminary and Connector), and prompt each other’s thinking through deep discussions. Below are some reflections from learners.
Dilain – Lit Circles helps with both independent learning and collaborative learning because we are able to independently read and look at our role. Then we can collaboratively work with our group and explain our ideas so they can understand our thinking.
Gargi – Lit Circles have helped me to read a wider variety of books and link strategies to my writing. I also can focus more on my CAFÉ reading goal because the roles link to the goals I set myself.
Ryan and Sidarth – Lit Circles have helped us because we have learnt how to stick to designated roles, for example understanding how to deeply summarise. We would discuss quotes and talk about what happened in different chapters and discuss the different characters that have been introduced.
Mihika, Tanishi, Somya, Max – “Knowledge is like paint, it does no good unless applied” (Doe Zantamata). This means what good is knowledge if you can’t share it with others and better yourself and others? Lit Circles helps us to pass on roles and lets us think about the emotions within the text and then infer with our group.
Meera – When you are normally reading a book, you don’t pay attention to small important details, but Lit Circles helps you to do that.
Atiksh, Bhanuka, Vivan, Yuvan - Literacy Circles have helped us collaborate and work together in all situations and we have gotten to know each other, which helped us know each other's strengths and combine ideas.
