SPORT REPORT

Welcome to the Term 3 Brighton Secondary College Sports Update!

It's wonderful to see the dedication, teamwork, and outstanding performances displayed by the students across various sports. Let's celebrate the achievements of our talented athletes:

Firstly, congratulations to Jenson Cremasco, Tanishka Dash, Mia Davies, Millie Hewlett, Elara Quinn, Fred Shaw, and Davis Valavi for their fantastic efforts at the Southern Metropolitan Cross Country competition.

Excelling in challenging conditions is no easy feat, and their hard work deserves recognition.

This week, the Senior Girls and Boys' soccer teams proudly represented our college at the SMR regionals at Kingston Heath. Their exceptional efforts on the day are to be admired. The Senior Girls soccer team once again secured victory in the competition! We extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Chalk, Mr. Varney, and Ms. Bildsoe for generously volunteering their time as coaches on these days. Without their dedication, these events would not be possible.

The teams’ spirit and determination have been a true inspiration to everyone in the college community. Their passion for sports and commitment to success serve as shining examples to their peers and to the younger students.

Lastly, a special mention goes out to Jenson Yokota-Ho, who has earned a well-deserved place in Tennis Australia's Player Support Program. Congratulations, also to Jenson, for his recent victory in the under 13’s Title! We are looking forward to hearing about his exciting journey to Germany, where he is acclimatizing to the European clay at his temporary home at the Boris Becker International Academy. Jenson's achievements are a testament to his talent and hard work.

Once again, congratulations to all the students who have contributed to the success of our college in various sports. Your dedication and achievements make us proud, and we are excited to see what more is in store for Term 3!

A few words from the coaches and teams:

Cross Country

The SMR cross country was a great experience. Although there weren’t many of us there the atmosphere was really nice, and everyone was super supportive of each other. We didn’t have much luck with weather as the course was covered in mud and it was freezing, luckily the rain held off for our races. We both had around 100 participants in our races and managed to place in the top 40% as well as both setting personal records for the 3k. We were very appreciative to compete in these events and will definitely try to get in again next year.

Senior Girls Soccer

“In bitterly cold and windy conditions they gave up their day off to represent the school at Regional Finals. The State Final is Monday August 28. They beat Macrob 7-1, Sirius College 3-0 and Frankston High 2-1 in the Final. Everyone played great football with no subs, in wonderful sporting spirit and the star strikers were Megan and Emilie, who scored the decider with a few minutes remaining. Thanks to Heidi Bildsoe for assistant coach duties today.

The Team Mia , Olivia, Katie, Ursula, Megan, Remi, Emilie, Megan, Frances, Matilda, Bethany.

Senior Boys Soccer

The senior boys soccer team arrived to school on a cold Wednesday morning, excited for the day ahead following the impressive performances they displayed in the district tournament in term 2. The energy was high on the way to Kingston Heath, with Nils Salomonsson Onnebo in his usual role, on the aux supplying the tunes.

Our first game was against Dandenong, the boys started well, dominating the opening exchanges. Multiple efforts from Justin Skinner and Aston Askew were impressive and lifted team confidence early. With some scary moments for us on the sidelines towards the end of the first half, both teams went into the break scoreless. The second half was much of the same, with little-to-no clear cut chances for either team, the game finished 0-0. Certainly not the result we were after for, but with confidence in our ability we remained level-headed.

Albert Park didn’t show up so we had a long break until our final game against Hampton Park. This game was a must-win if we wanted to make the final, and have a chance to advance to the next stage. We conceded a goal early on in the piece, meaning we needed to score twice without conceding in less than 25 minutes of game time. An inspirational half time speech from Nicholas Karamitos fired the boys up to go out there and do their all in what possibly could be for the last half of school soccer the year 12s will play. Chances were at a low throughout the first 10 or so minutes of the second half, meaning we had to gamble a few extra players forward, leading to us conceding a 2nd goal, and all but destroying our chances of making it to the final. Credit to all of the players as they never gave up, running hard until the final whistle, but the opposition we faced on the day proved too good.

Overall Coach Kavunovsky lead the team desirably.
