Positive Behaviours for Learning (PBL)

At SFS, our school expectations are:

Respect

Responsibility

and Kindness

This week our PBL focus has been on Kindness: Be thoughtful of others in the toilets. We have a weekly PBL lesson on an expected behaviour every Monday at 1pm.

A big thank you to the parents who attended the PBL feedback session and workshop. It was great to hear what parents think of the framework and hear them share their thought and ideas. If you have any feedback or would like to know more information, please email me rlenko@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

Remember to ask your child about why they have brought home a PBL card and sign it so they can put the card into the weekly raffle. Here is one of out lucky junior winners from last week.

The National day of action against bullying and violence

The National day of action against bullying and violence is on the 18th August this year. The theme this year is growing together to help prevent bullying.

What is bullying?

The national definition for Australian schools says…

Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. It can involve an individual or a group misusing their power, or perceived power, over one or more persons who feel unable to stop it from happening. Bullying can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious (overt) or hidden (covert). Bullying behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time (for example, through sharing of digital records). Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.

Important tips for parents

  • Don't wait for bullying to happen to talk about it.
  • Talk about what bullying is before it happens so children can recognise it and know what to do.
  • Most importantly, let children know how to get help if bullying happens.

Lego club

The children love coming to Lego club this week. One Prep keeps asking me “is it Lego club today?” and when I replay “Wednesday” he asked me “how many more sleeps?”

The challenge this week is to build an animal. Here are some photos of the children’s working together in Lego club this week.
