 Diggers Have Returned to SFS!

This time it is not for a new building but to commence work on the drainage for our landscape plans. Work commenced today on our courtyard beside the hall and will be completed before the end of this term in time for the opening of our building.

A case of Déjà vu from Amy!

As I walked into the space for Morning Gathering today, I saw a couple of our grade 6 boys gazing out the window mesmerized by the digger working outside on the landscaping around our new hall.  At that moment I had a vivid flashback to my Prep Homegroup from 2017.!!

I asked the boys "Do you remember when there were diggers working on the sheds outside our Learning Space in Prep?" to which they replied "yeah, we do sort of".

I felt compelled to search through the archives to find a photo that I knew was taken to support the Prep's writing that day back in 2017.  I found it and we recreated the scene today 7 years later!!

Amy

Flash Back!!! .....Time Goes by quick .....

Almost 7 years ago when we were in Prep, the shed was made. We were fascinated by the machinery that was used to dig out the ditch where the shed was soon going to be built. Our Prep teacher Amy had to make us do a separate task about the digger because that was all we could focus on that day seven years ago.

Fast forward to 2023 ....

Now, the landscaping is being created for the new hall and our teacher Amy (now our grade 6 teacher) had a flashback from 7 years ago when she saw us this morning focused on the digger outside our Learning Space.  We have been friends for 8 years and still are. Amy took a picture of us doing the same thing, pointing at the digger. We are now two boys in Grade 6 - still obsessed with diggers! Time sure does go by quick But some things stay the same!!!

We look forward to our families joining us for this important event.

The invitation will also be sent via Operoo to all school families. In order for us to cater for this very special event in our school's history it is very important that you respond to the invitation. Please only reply 'Yes' on Operoo if you are attending. Please also indicate numbers attending. We ask all our school families to respond via Operoo. Invited guests are asked to reply via the email admin@sfslynbrook.catholic.edu.au

Preparing for 2024

We are commencing the process of making arrangements for 2024, which also includes budgeting and staffing. It is important that if your child is not returning in 2024 that you notify the school in writing. We encourage you to do this now or as soon as possible.

Medical Alert

It is important that medical information shared with the school is current and correct.

The information shared with the school via Operoo is owned by parents/Guardians and it is the parent's responsibility to ensure it is accurate at all times. The school relies on this data for vital medical information and action plans and emergency contacts. In an emergency this is what we use, it must be accurate. When a child goes on an excursion, parents are asked to verify that the medical information is correct. We thus trust you have checked it and updated information if required.

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian/carer to:

  • provide the school with a copy of the student’s Medical Action Plan if your child has a medical condition, containing the emergency response plan (signed by the medical practitioner)
  • provide an up-to-date photo of the student (to be appended to this plan)
  • inform the school if the child’s medical condition changes.

Anaphylaxis

  • provide the school with a copy of the student’s ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis
  •  ASCIA Action Plans do not expire, and therefore the plan is still valid beyond the review date, which is a guide for patients to see their doctor.

Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes

  • Where the medical management pertains to a specific condition e.g. epilepsy, a specialist advice service medical management template may be used e.g. Asthma Plan, Diabetes Australia (Victoria), Epilepsy Foundation of Victoria, continence care plan.
  • Your Action Plan also needs updating whenever medications change, or if symptoms change.
  • Schools require Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes Action Plans to be completed or reviewed at least annually for each student

Medication Authority Form

All MACS schools required a Medication Authority Form signed by a doctor to administer any medication to a child during school hours. Please see the school website for copies of these forms.

We are currently, reviewing our policies and protocols. We will also be inviting you to a meeting if your child has a Medical Action/Management Plan and requires medication at school to review your child's Support Plan this term. This is a safety issue and your support is important.

In addition, we also need to ensure medication has a valid and current use by date.  Each year, we will be asking all parents to supply the school with new medication purchased just before school starts with a validity of one year (eg ventolin), so that the expiry date lasts for the entire year. At the start and end of the year we will provide a reminder.

Before the start of the new year or the start of a new term, is also a good time to check your child's asthma or anaphylaxis action plan and obtain a new one and upload it ready for the new year/term.

Your support is appreciated to ensure we can provide the best care for your child. Your prompt replies to e-forms on Operoo and attention to update any data that changes is vital.

Spread the News!

We have moved to electronic applications. Enrolment forms are available via our website.

Places are available for children moving into the area.

Go Pies!! Go Matilda's!
