Our Year 3/ 4 students have been learning about fractions, mixed fractions and improper fractions. Here are some of our students working collaboratively, ordering fractions together and plotting them on a number line. Some great conversations and mathematical thinking going on here....
This week, Vihaan in Year 5 entered his mathematical project on 'Home Interest Rates Calculation' into the annual Maths Talent Quest. The Maths Talent Quest is a competition where students can work on a mathematical investigation of their choice related to the Victorian Curriculum. Vihaan worked hard in his own time and during Maths Club to complete a high level Maths project related to money. Congratulations on your participation Vihaan!
On Wednesday this week, we had a number of children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who took place in the very challenging Australian Mathematics Competition.
Congratulations to the following students who participated:
Khanh Ha, Rocky, Tiero, Alden, Chloe, Claudia, Louiza, Saul, Aidan, Georgia, Angela, Patrick, Alex, Austin, Vihaan, Tim, Douglas, Andrew, Amy, Tyler, Yagmur, Henryk, Hugo, Cameron, Jax, Mila, Anthony, Lucinda, Maisonya, Catie, Gracelyn, Angus, Sophie, Vinhson and Humphrey.
The Maths Competition comprised 30 problem solving questions which became increasingly complex as the students progressed through the test. The students had 60 minutes to complete the test. The test itself was quite challenging, however the the students who chose to participate said that they enjoyed the questions and the mathematical challenge!
Have a look at these amazing mathematicians and all the mathematical thinking going on here...
As we have a strong partnership with the University of Melbourne, we continue to provide opportunities at Trinity to support and mentor pre service teachers. This year we will once again have two pre-service teachers from the university, in PrepCM with Ms Caitlin, and in 5/6BOC with Ms O'Connor, beginning on Friday 4/8. We know that these teacher candidates will feel very welcomed by our community and have positive learning experiences in these classrooms with our students, and with the support of such wonderful mentor teachers.
Later this term, the children will be involved in some and engaging learning experiences during Book Week. This year the theme for Book Week is 'Read Grow Inspire'.
Monday 7th August
We will have special guest author Morris Gleitzman visiting with the children in Years 3-6 in the library at 2:15pm. If children have their own copy of a Morris Gleitzman book they can bring it along to be signed by him on the day. The book signing will take place at 3:15pm in the library until 3:30pm. If you would like more information about Morris Gleitzman and his work, you can access his website: https://www.morrisgleitzman.com
Monday 14th August
Our Year Prep - 2 students will walk to and from Richmond Library as part of our Book Week celebrations. CARP Productions will be presenting a show which takes the students on a magical journey related to the Book Week books.
If, at any time, you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to make contact with your child's teacher. You are also welcome to come and see me about any aspect of learning at Trinity.
