Term 2 Cultural Inclusion  Overviews

Cultural Inclusion Term 2

Prep

Students are exposed to a range of texts created by Indigenous Australians. That includes story books, songs and audio-visual materials. They are learning that the stories of a culture can be told in many ways and that  Indigenous Australian cultural connection is expressed in many ways.

Grade 1

Students are learning about Australian animals - their features, habitats and behaviours. They are also learning to distinguish between native and non-native animals.

Grade 2

Students are being exposed to Indigenous languages from around Australia, through stories and songs.

Grade 3

Grade 3 students will be investigating Indigenous Australians that have made changes and impacted history. They will consider what actions led them to be inspiring and the attributes needed to do this. Students will use these Indigenous Australians to evaluate their own contributions to the community and consider actions they could take to make changes.

Grade 4

Students in Grade 4 will be investigating Indigenous language, social or nation groups of Australia. They will establish how groups have similarities and differences and consider how the landscape and environment affected this. Students will compare and contrast other groups with their local language group and identify meanings and origins of words.

Grade 5

Students are developing understandings of colonisation around the world, focussing on some particular examples including Africa,  India, the Americas and New Zealand.

Grade 6

In Term 2, Students in Grade 6 will explore the ecological, zoological and hydrological knowledge and practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, from the past and the present. They will determine the impact that colonisation has had on the environment and will use the cause and effect relationship to establish this. Students will reflect on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ relationship to and caring for Country and develop ideas on how to incorporate this into more sustainable farming practices.
