ANZAC Day Commemoration

On Tuesday 25 April we commemorate ANZAC Day. This date is the anniversary of the day Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the beaches of Gallipoli in 1915 as part of the Allies' invasion in World War 1. We recognise more than 1.5 million men and women who have served Australia in all conflicts, wars and peacekeeping operations. It's also a time to remember some 102,000 Australians who lost their lives while serving.

Our ANZAC Day commemoration was held on Wednesday 26 April on the basketball courts at EHPS. The students respected the solemn nature of the event and experienced the reverence of our ceremony. The event commenced with Chamber Strings performing Amazing Grace, before the flags were lowered to half-mast by the flag captains Tyler, Lina C and Alexander. Year 6 students Evander and Xiaoao spoke about the importance of ANZAC Day, then Mason and Harry talked about the significance of rosemary and poppies. Arnav recited the poem In Flanders Fields. A wreath had been made by each class, which was laid at the base of the flagpole during the ceremony. Lina S read the Ode, then Shihao played The Last Post, followed by a minute’s silence. Ryan played The Rouse to conclude the minute’s silence and the flags were raised. All students sang the National Anthem which was accompanied by Chamber Strings. The Percussion Ensemble concluded the commemoration with their rhythmical performance of the Drum Corps Echoes.
