Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 2 at EHPS.

We're looking forward to a busy and productive term, including our swimming programs beginning, our Dance Concert, Winter Inter-School Sport, House sports, camps, and valuable incursions and excursions.

Dance Concert

We have a very exciting week coming up with our two dance concerts on Monday and Tuesday at Crossway in Burwood East. The children were so excited when they received their costumes. On Monday, the children will have a full run through at the venue. This will help familiarise them with the various parts of Crossway and what is required of them on stage.

Please make sure that you familiarise yourself with the detailed information that Elisha Cotterell has sent to all families, both electronically and in hard copy.

Also remember that we have a 9.45am start on Tuesday morning to give everyone the chance for a sleep in.

The children are really looking forward to putting on ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ for you, so we look forward to seeing you all there! The show starts at 6pm.

ANZAC Day

On Wednesday of last week, we conducted our ANZAC Day service led by Year 6 students. Our leaders, flag captains and musicians all carried out their role perfectly. The children were so respectful throughout the service and the minute silence was observed impeccably. Every class made beautiful wreaths that were placed at the base of the flag poles to commemorate the fallen. These wreaths are now on display in the Library. Thank you to all classes and their teachers for the excellent preparation and effort for this very important event.

Road Safety and our children

Since our return for Term 2, I have had cause to speak with a few parents about the way children walk or ride to school. It appears that some children are not careful enough when crossing intersections either as pedestrians or cyclists. I raised this road safety issue with the children at assembly on Monday. I urge all families to please spend some time discussing road safety with your children this weekend.

To help keep your children safe around roads, teach them how to follow the safe road crossing procedure – STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK:

  • STOP one step back from the kerb, or shoulder of the road if there is no footpath.
  • LOOK in all directions for approaching traffic.
  • LISTEN in all directions for approaching traffic.
  • THINK about whether it is safe to cross the road – when the road is clear or all traffic has stopped. When crossing, walk straight across the road. Keep LOOKING and LISTENING for traffic while crossing.

To help keep children safe when using wheeled devices there are a few key steps you can follow:

  • Always supervise children when they are using wheeled devices.
  • Always use correctly fitted and appropriate safety gear like helmets, wrist guards and knee/elbow pads.
  • It’s important that children learn to ride their wheeled device in a safe environment e.g. away from roads and driveways.
  • Ensure that the wheeled device is the right size for your child and is appropriate for their development and motor skills.

School Council

The School Council Annual Reporting meeting will be held this coming Thursday at 7.30pm in the Staff Room at school. Following the meeting the report will be available on our website once it has been endorsed by the Department of Education.

Student Attitude to School Survey

Over the next month, children in Years 4 to 6 will complete the annual student opinion survey. This survey provides important information for the school about the views of children over a range of issues. Next week you will receive an email explaining the purpose and scope of the student survey, so please check your Compass portal for this email.

School Photos

We have recently received some enquiries from parents about their school photo orders. We expect to receive the photos soon, and will notify you via Compass when they have been received and distributed to students.

Congratulations

We were delighted to receive the news of the marriage of former teacher, Moira Lennon, to Matt.
