Monash Waverley Division Tennis Tournament

It was a lovely, sunny day to play tennis although at times the wind was a bit tricky. The standard of the tennis matches in the Monash Waverley Division tennis competition held on Wednesday 26 April at Notting Hill/Pinewood Tennis Club was very good. Our students performed extremely well, displaying excellent sportsmanship. Tihana, Max and Marcus proudly represented Essex Heights. They all finished in the top two places after their pool matches, qualifying for the final round. Tihana and Max won their final matches and will play in the Eastern Metropolitan Region tennis competition today, Friday 5 May. Marcus finished in 3rd place which was terrific too. Congratulations to all three students!

Thank you to the parents for transporting and supporting their children during the day.

It was an enjoyable tennis day.

Good luck to Tihana and Max.

Monique Hocking

Once again I made it through to division tennis for Essex Heights and this time I knew what to expect and wasn’t as nervous as last year! After winning all my group matches, I was into the finals. I won my final and now off to Regionals on Friday! I would like to say thank you to Mum and Dad for driving me down and supporting me the whole day. Also a big thank you to Mrs Hocking for the constant encouragement and support throughout the whole day. Can’t wait to see what regionals bring.    Tihana R, 6T

Hi, my name is Marcus and I’m in 4P and on Wednesday we went to Monash Waverley Division Tennis at Notting Hill Tennis Club. We had to play against lots of schools and it was really fun. Tennis is open age so I played against grade 6’s mostly.
I won my group after winning my two matches 6-0 so I got in to the semi-finals and had to play my brother Max (photo of us below). I lost 6-2 but even though I didn’t get in I am still happy because it was a good learning experience.
Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for signing me up to these events and driving me here. I would also like to thank Ms Hocking for coming along and cheering and organising all this.   Marcus O, 4P
Hello, my name is Max and I went to Notting Hill Tennis Club for Division Tennis. It was a really good time playing with some tough matches. I managed to win through to region with the top two. I know that I tried my best and played really well. I would like to thank Mrs Hocking and my parents for coming and supporting me.   Max O

Cross Country

A cross country event for students in Years 3 to 6 was run from 9am to 11.30am today, Friday 5 May, within the school grounds and the Essex Heights Reserve oval. Students competed for their House (Boyd, Lindsay, Nolan or Drysdale).

The house cross country event is a healthy, fun and active event that helps to ensure we send the right message about the benefits of physical activity and being active to our students while having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The main focus for this event is to encourage participation and teamwork. Family support is appreciated as we encourage all students to participate and get involved.

The event followed the following format:

  • Year 3 - 1 lap of the course (1km)
  • 9/10’s - 2 laps of the course (2km)
  • 11/12’s - 3 laps of the course (3km)

Qualifying students will represent EHPS at the Mulgrave District Cross Country event on Wednesday 24 May.
