In past newsletters I have written about the importance of students being at school every day. As the saying goes, “Every day counts, when it comes to learning”, and of course, we want all our students at school working on their goals and learning, however, we are getting a number of COVID cases through the school. If your child tests positive, it is recommended that they stay at home for 5 days. Students at school that have flu like symptoms will be sent to the sickbay and parents will be asked to pick them up.
Staff also have the same rules and are not to be at school if they have flu like symptoms. We do want to keep everyone as safe as possible so that the least amount of people have to stay away from school through the current flu season.
I hope our whole school community can help with this. If you have any questions or you’re unsure, please don’t hesitate to call the school.
This week we hosted teachers from Maffra P.S. They were amazed at the calm beautiful learning environment and the engagement from our kids. Telling me that they had lots of take-aways in terms of the teaching strategies they observed.
Our teachers and students should feel proud that teachers from other schools are willing to drive such a long way to see them in action.
I would like to remind you that our next Curriculum Day is coming up. Monday 29th of May. Here at WYPS we invest heavily in our teachers being up to date with the best teaching practices. We believe this is why we continue to receive great student results and the reason so many teachers from other schools want to come and see what we do at Woori.
We do understand that Curriculum Days can be annoying for parents but we do have to use four per year, which is government mandated. Dates are approved by our school council.
I was a very proud principal last week. Each year the Upper Yarra RSL runs an ANZAC ceremony for all of the grade six students from all the schools in the Valley. Each school is asked to present something at the ceremony. Our school’s topic was local serviceman in the Valley. Milla and Chelsea presented on behalf of our school. They were the only students that didn’t read off notes and the delivery of their speech was perfect. After the ceremony Ben who was looking after the group told me that lots of people came to him to ask him to congratulate our students for the fantastic job they did.
I already notice that some of children are coming to school in the mornings without wearing a jumper. I don’t know how they do it when I have two tops on and a big overcoat. It is definitely getting chilly. I do love the school bennies! Please ask your children to dress for the season.
We had a great school photo day last week. The photographers also commented on how beautifully polite our kids are. They said they actually look forward to coming to Woori! I must admit to thinking that it can’t be easy being a school photographer! The turn around for you to get the photos should be around four weeks.
A big Thank You to all in our amazing school community who volunteer their time to help out at school, but in this "Volunteer Week" we would love to highlight the amazing effort Jasmine Maloney makes. Jaz organises, orders, shops, picks up odds & ends and convinces others to help out all while wrangling 5 kids under 12! She is the driving force for our Special Lunch Days, our Sausage Sizzles, Mother's & Father's Day stalls and so much more. Also Donna Stent who is usually found at Jaz's side, quietly getting the job done.
Thank you Ladies you do an amazing job
(Hard to rustle up a photo)
Shout out to Jacob's Mum for making some colourful cup cake treats for Colour Run Day.
Have a great week!
And remember when life gets a little difficult, escape to the wonderful world of a book!
