Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

We acknowledge that Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne are situated on the lands of the five language groups that make up the Kulin Nations, who have walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years.

We pay respects to their Elders past, present and future, and commit to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

Dear Families

Welcome to Term 2 here at St Joseph's. We hope that the Easter Holiday was relaxing and kind to you all.

Late last term we had some special events to celebrate. Our Year 3 Class celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation on 29th March. Thank you to Ms Cooke for preparing the students so well.

We had a wonderful time on school camp. The Year 5/6 students were at the Log Cabin Camp in Creswick for three nights. We had the best weather and the camp activities were great. Camp is a great opportunity for kids (and staff) to safely face some fears such as the giant swing or the leap of faith. Also being away for 3 nights is challenging for everyone. The group were amazing and we would certainly be visiting this camp again.

HOLT District Sports

Inter-school sports begin this week!

Home and away Footy and Netball start in week 3 of this term for 4 weeks.

School closure day

Please add the date to your calendar, we will have our final Berry Street professional development day on Friday June 9th. This will be a student free day.

Mothers Day

We will be celebrating Mothers Day with a whole school mass at 9.15am on Friday 12th May. Please join us if you can and pop into class afterwards for a cuppa.

School Production 2023

This year we will be having a school production. We have assembled a team of staff who are currently deciding on ideas. The production will likely be in Term 4 (depending on where we can hire a theatre). Lots more news to follow in the next few weeks.

School Disco / Cheese & Wine

DJ Sando will be taking a break from his world tour and can squeeze in a disco here at St Joseph's on Thursday 25th May (5pm - 6.30pm)

Parents are invited to a cheese and wine gathering hosted by our lovely P&F in the Wellbeing Room.

(Operoo to follow).

Thank you to Janine Billings for her time and effort in clearing and tidying all the bushes around the tennis courts!

Time in Lieu

The new Enterprise Agreement for MACS schools requires schools to be very mindful of teacher work load. If teachers are required to work beyond the 38 hour week, they are entitled to 'time in lieu'. This may impact us now and again when teachers need to be acquitted of the time. For every school this will create challenges. For St Joseph's we will be finishing early on the last day of the term in order to accrue some of the time back that we need for parent teacher interviews, sacraments, productions and camps. It will also mean a school closure on the Monday 6th November of Melbourne Cup weekend.
