Grand 6 Formula One Grand Prix Excursion

On Friday 31st March, the Grade 6 students from both Buninyong and Scotsburn headed down to Albert Park in Melbourne to experience the Australian Formula One Grand Prix. Students and teachers left bright and early at 8am via bus to the race track, where we were greeted with beautiful sunshine.

On arrival, we made our way to the designated “Driver Learning” STEM area, where students had the opportunity to explore a range of interactive exhibits including Australian Defence Force Tech Hub, LANdu Esports, iFly Melbourne, Virtual Reality flight simulators, drone racing, and lots, lots more.

Students and staff then walked to a designated viewing area to watch the fastest cars in the world, the Formula One cars in practice. It was incredible to see these machines up close and personal, and all students came away from the day with even more passion and excitement for all things STEM!

Student Reflection

The Formula One Grand Prix was so much fun because you got to explore the STEM area and there were many stalls. There were fun things to explore like drone racing. The person that got the quickest time through all the hoops on the first lap or how many you wanted to do would win. There were also so many other things for you to explore, and my favourite part was the robot army dog that danced to some musicians. The song it danced to was Shake It Off - it was hilarious, and it ran into the person who was playing the trumpet. I laughed so hard!
