Buninyong Primary School Cross Country Day

Well done to everyone who participated in the cross country today. It was amazing to see the effort and enthusiasm shown throughout, as well as the incredible support and encouragement shown to all students. The sun was shining as well which made for a brilliant day!

Last Day of Term 1 and Ride to School Day

This Thursday (6th April) is the last day of Term 1. As there is an end of term whole school assembly planned, we will begin the day at the Buninyong Campus. After the assembly has concluded, we will return to the Scotsburn Campus to participate in some fun end of term activities. Normal Scotsburn pickup arrangements will occur at 2.30pm.

The last day of term is also doubling up as our Ride to School Day and as a Scotsburn Campus, we would love to be involved! We are asking students to bring their bikes to the Buninyong Campus before school to go for a fun ride around a designated track, with lots of other teachers and students. Those that bring their bikes will then have an opportunity to have a ride around the oval and basketball court at Buninyong after assembly. For families that have their bike at Buninyong for the day, they will then need to return to the Buninyong Campus in the afternoon to pick up the bike.

Keep an eye out for more information about this from Mr Rodgers in the wellbeing section of this newsletter.

Uniform Collection and Swap

We currently have a very large pile of spare uniform items in the old building. We would love for lots of these to find homes prior to the holidays. If you know your child is missing any items, please pop in and have a look, as some are currently unnamed.

Also, if you are looking for an extra jumper leading into winter, we have quite a few spares that we would love to donate to new homes. Feel free at any stage to come in and have a look at our unnamed pile for any items that may be suitable.

Holiday Care of Pip

We would love another family to offer to take care of Pip over the Easter holidays. She is very low maintenance, only requiring food and water every few days. If you are interested in taking care of Pip, please contact Mr Morgan ASAP. Please remember that her home is about 1.5 metres long, so a larger car is most likely required for transport.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

Congratulations to all our students and families on a brilliant first term. Our eight new Preps have certainly settled in well and have become valued members of our Scotsburn Family. The growth we have witnessed throughout the first term, both academically and emotionally, from the students in SC1 is astonishing and we are so excited to continue this journey.

In Maths, we have continued exploring Numbers. Students practiced skip counting, using money last week. Money added that extra element of excitement while building on counting and money concepts!

Below are some photos of the students sharing their published writing pieces with SC3. They were so excited to share their writing journey with their buddies and friends. Our focus on creating a memoir has generated many opportunities for students to reflect on a special memory and turn it into a short narrative. Their handwriting has certainly changed from the beginning of the term. Please feel free to pop in and read your child’s story. We will keep them in the classroom to continue sharing and reflecting on but we would still love for you to see all the hard work they have put in.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Easter break and we look forward to seeing you all again next term.

Thank you for your continued support.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

SC2 have been putting in a power of work on their cereal box designs! They will have these completed early this week, which we are very excited about! Students have now been in the process of using their research and design booklets to guide them in their final designs. The students have been engaging in TV advertisements and more to inspire them to implement the best slogans, mascots, cereal names, company names and more. SC2 have also been investigating persuasive parts of cereal boxes such as ingredients, puzzles, games, prizes, health-star-ratings and more to hook in their audience.

Students have also been doing a terrific job of critiquing their texts in Reading. They have been able to identify things that they like/dislike about the text, as well as what they would change to make it better.

Thanks everyone, have a great week and a safe and relaxing Easter break. The students in SC2 have made so many improvements both individually and together as a group in Term 1, they deserve a good break and should be very proud of their efforts.

Kind regards,

Mitch.

SC3 Learning Snapshot

The final week of term is upon us and in SC3 we could not be busier! Last week we had students attend the GRIP Leadership Conference, participate in the District Athletics and head off to the Formula One Grand Prix. We are all so proud of the way students in SC3 have given every opportunity put in front of them a red hot go, demonstrating courage and a growth mindset. The skills and knowledge developed through these experiences will provide all of our students with massive amounts of personal growth.

On Monday, SC3 students had a practice run of their solar boat challenge presentations. The task requires each team to build their boat out of recycled materials, as well as work together to create a poster and presentation focusing on renewable energy, the greenhouse effect and teamwork skills. The students did a brilliant job and are now ready for the real thing on Wednesday at Buninyong.

This week, we have cross country on Tuesday, Solar Boat Challenge on Wednesday, and a final day of celebration on Thursday, with a whole school assembly, ride to school day and viewing of the movie “Wonder” back at Scotsburn. This will be a wonderful way to wrap up the term. Please see below for more details about Wednesday and Thursday for SC3.

SC1 Colour Mixing

After listening to the story of “The Colours of Us” SC1 children had a big discussion about how we are all unique in our skin tones and there is no one colour called “skin colour”. We then set about experimenting with the different variations of skin colours that we could produce with brown, pink, yellow and white paints. When they were dry, students discussed and compared their skin coloured-paintings and selected the example closest to their own skin.

These paintings have formed the basis for our self portrait studies, which we will soon finish and take home. Students have created beautiful backgrounds for their self-portraits inspired by Joan Blond’s art, and we will soon add a speaking element using the chatter-pix app so that we can publish our Japanese self-introduction speaking into a movie. I am so excited to send them home next week and put the Japanese introductions on YouTube for you to see! Keep an eye on Compass at the end of next week for the finished product.
