From the Principal

House Breakfast Meet and Greets, February 2020.

Thank you to the many parents who have attended the Primary and Secondary Information Evenings since school resumed. These early meetings enable the staff to share important information and address any concerns that you may have at this early stage of the school year. In the event that you were unable to attend, I urge you to make contact with your child's class teacher in the Primary and the Head of Senior School, Anne Harris in the Secondary School who will be happy to update you as appropriate.

The Secondary School "Meet and Greet" House Breakfasts, held this week, have provided an opportunity for students, parents and House staff to gather informally in the cause of building spirit and a stronger affiliation with the House. Feedback from the breakfasts has been positive - thank you to parents who attended and took the opportunity to speak to their House teacher and Head of House.

One of the highlights of the first month of the school year is the Commissioning of the student leaders. Next Wednesday, the 2020 student leadership group will pledge their commitment to their roles in front of the whole school who, in return, will pledge to support their leaders. Thank you to the many parents and other relatives who will attend this special occasion. A pleasing trend over the years, has been the growing number of Primary School leaders who aspire to and ultimately assume leadership roles in the Secondary School. This is testament to the range of leadership opportunities we offer our students; the value so many students place on leading, guiding and supporting their peers; and their pride in representing John Wollaston. Congratulations to the 110 students who have been appointed to leadership positions for 2020. It is an honour to represent one's peers and the staff and I look forward to working with them all throughout the year.

I do hope you can attend the annual P&F Welcome Back Barbecue to be held in the grounds of the Secondary School on Wednesday 26 February. As the first major community event of the year, it promises to be a great night with plenty of food and entertainment to keep everyone entertained. New families are particularly encouraged to attend.

With best wishes
