Across the Principal's Desk

Student Led Conferences forthcoming

Tuesday 17 September is a pupil free day, with Student Led Conferences being held at the school from 12noon – 7:00pm.

We offer the 7-hour window for all parents to access critical face-to-face meetings with their classroom teachers, specialist teachers as required and Leadership staff. Booking will be open on www.schoolinterviews.com.au a week prior to the conferences.

Our OSHC service will be available for families requiring care for their children.

OSHC details and booking information are available now.

NAPLAN

This week sees the release of the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results across the nation.

Whilst the decade-long program is now enduring, it is a mere snapshot and guide only into the moment-in-time knowledge of our children / students.

The data sets provided to the school are informative for planning and improvement purposes, supporting strategic, evidence-based programs intending to improve all student outcomes.

Daily classroom interactions and teacher observations, supported by relevant assessment tasks implemented locally, that are pertinent to our curriculum delivery, are a more reliable and accurate indicator of your child’s achievement standards and growth.

Please celebrate your child’s achievements with them regularly, take on-board NAPLAN results, should you have a child or children in Years 3 and / or 5.

We look forward to giving you all a greater picture of your child’s progress at our forthcoming Student Led Conferences aforementioned.

Kindergarten Open Session

We are holding a special Open session for prospective and enrolled 2020 Kindergarten children on Tuesday 10 September from 9:30am.

We will be sharing crucial information, having a walk and talk around our wonderful facility and there will be finger food and refreshments available.  Please come along, enjoy our hospitality and further your readiness for 2020.

Liaison Principal to start at MRPS

Liaison Principal to start at MRPS

Yesterday I supported an aspiring leader and teacher from Pleasant Street Primary School in a program called ‘Unlocking Potential’, offered via the DET.

I am delighted to announce, Tess Kelly will be joining our team to complete a placement at our school for up to 60 days.  Tess will be inducted onto our team from term 4 this year, and will work predominantly with us in term 1, 2020.

This is a great opportunity for Tess to shadow myself and learn more about the Principal Class role within another setting.

She will also be working on a project-based task around supporting students, families and staff to better an identified (data based) area of the school.  She will literally be a free resource for us to utilise as a “Liaison Principal”.

Spring-fest Beneficiary

Spring-fest Beneficiary

This year, Miners Rest Primary School have been selected to be a beneficiary of Springfest, to be held in November.

We are very fortunate, for the second time, to be a beneficiary of this great event in Ballarat.  We will receive a donation from the proceeds of the event, to be put back into resources for teaching & learning at our school.

Please keep an eye out for further information in future newsletters and if able, volunteer or support the event that will support us – thanks to Rotary of Ballarat.

School Council

School Council

Our next school council general meeting will be held on Monday 9 September from 5:30pm and will include our Junior School Council in a special educational sitting.

We look forward to hearing of the students many great ideas and input to better our school through student voice.
