Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition

Ciao Everyone!

On the morning of Wednesday, June 26th, Italian students from Years 9,10 and 11 gathered together and boarded the bus to Melbourne University for the Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition. We were all fairly anxious, but also excited as we practised our poems repeatedly on the bus trip there. We entered the lecture room where we were waiting to be called, group by group by our last names. The groups were taken up to a room where we had to recite our chosen poem to one judge. When everyone finished reciting their poems, we were immediately relieved.

After this we made our way to Lygon Street to have some lunch. We ate pizzas, pasta and even gelato!  We were able to choose our preferred restaurants and we also had the opportunity to window shop which is always exciting!

There was a lot of excitement on the bus trip back to school after a day packed with fun and exciting memories. The day was, overall, a great experience and we all really enjoyed it!  Now we will have to wait patiently for the results! In bocca al lupo (‘Good luck’ in Italian!)

Grazie mille to our teachers, Signorina Maroun, Signora Jamieson, Signorina Timlin and Signora Urban

By the students in Signora Urban’s Year 9 Italian class.
