Independence Centre

Curriculum

Last week was action-packed! Throughout the week, students in the Independence Centre worked on developing the tension in a narrative through the use of sticky situations and exciting endings. Students wrote different problems that could occur in a narrative and why these would help to build the tension. Later in the week, students started to look at creating exciting endings for their stories to finish with a bang! This week in writing students are going to be beginning persuasive writing pieces.

In Reading, students made text-to-world connections to different text types including non-fiction. Text connections are a great way for students to develop their understanding of the text being read. In the coming week, we will be looking at exploring text-to-self connections in greater detail.

In Mathematics sessions across the week, students continued to investigate place value. A lot of work was done using number expanders to accurately position numbers, with some students practising whole numbers and others beginning to explore decimal numbers. Later in the week, we used addition and subtraction for numbers of different place values. Next week we will be beginning to explore fractions!

Thank you and have a wonderful week!

Reminders

  • Please make sure you have downloaded the most recent version of the NAPLAN browser on your child's iPad as we will be having a practise on during the last week of this term. Search for the NAP Locked down browser in the App Store to download this application.
  • If your child could ensure that they have a pair of headphones at school it would be greatly appreciated.
  • We are trying to reduce rubbish at our school so nude food is always a great option, otherwise students will be taking home their rubbish in their lunch boxes.
