Australian Reading Hour

Today (Thursday September 19 2019) is Australian Reading Hour where we are encouraged to stop what we’re doing for one hour and pick up a book. It’s hoped that more Australians will be inspired to either rediscover or introduce themselves to the benefits of reading. Take the time to learn, escape and relax.

In children, reading has been shown to help with identity formation, setting them up for success in the future. In adults, reading has been shown to reduce stress by 68% more than listening to music, going for a walk, or having a cup of tea.

Sounds like a wonderful idea to me, not that I need much encouragement! With life so busy, it’s easy to forget the little things that if you make the time for, can really make such an impact on mental health, relaxation and general wellbeing.  Children especially, benefit from being read to and will be more likely to be persuaded to think of reading for pleasure as a good thing if they see their parents reading as something to do because it’s “fun.

Overdue Books

Thank you to all those students who have found overdue library books and returned them in the last couple of weeks.  Great effort and great to see them back!!  Keep it up.  Each class were told this week they have the holidays to find all their books and to make sure they are ALL returned at the beginning of next term.  Your help with this is greatly appreciated.

Hangers

Donations of hangers, in particular skirt hangers, for the library is still requested.  We are hanging all the maps and posters to make it easier to go through and would love to have that job finished by early next term. Any hangers would be wonderful, even the wire dry cleaning type ones.  Thanks!!

End of term

Wishing everyone a great break and hope you all get to do something in the sun, because it feels like it has been a long time since it’s been sunny, nice and warm!!  Great time to spend reading a book or two…

Library Session Times

  • Option A: check your classroom day/time for returning books.
  • Option B: tub outside the library door so books can be returned at any time.
