Principal Post

From the Principal. . .

Dear Families,

I hope that all our Mums, grandmas  and special women were well pampered last Sunday as they celebrated  Mothers Day!

NAPLAN

Our NAPLAN began yesterday. Students in Year 3 completed the NAPLAN writing task which was for all Year 3 students a pen and paper task.

Our Year 5 students  completed the  Writing Task ONLINE. Whilst there were connectivity issues from the NAPLAN end, (experienced also by other schools across the state / nation), our students have been given an extra period of time today to complete or review their writing.

We have decided that we will conduct all other NAPLAN tests on paper and we have permission to do so.

The order of the tests however changes slightly and is as follows:

Wednesday May 15th: Reading Years 3 & 5

Thursday May 16th: Numeracy Years 3 & 5.

Monday May 20th: Conventions of Language Years 3 & 5.

Continue to be positive and encourage your children to do their best reminding them that this is only one assessment amongst many school based assessments.  The results will be sent to you as we receive them later this year.

Year 4 Camp

Our Year 4's will be travelling to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat for a three day / 2 night camp. This will take place on Wedneday 29th May - Friday 31st May.

Blessing of our Administration Building and Library

To this end we will be having a short paraliturgy in the Hall  followed by the official  blessing.  A number of invited guests (CEM staff, Parish guests, Architect and Builder) will be attending on this day. You are all welcome to attend our Paraliturgy.

Year 6 to 7 Transition

All students attending Catholic Secondary Colleges in 2020 should now have accepted a place at their preferred school.  For those students who wish to attend a Government Secondary College or who have not received an offer of enrolment at a Catholic Secondary College you  should have received an enrolment pack to apply to a Government Secondary College. This application is to be taken directly to the Secondary College no later than Friday May 17th.

All students in Year 6 need to return the form indicating which school they will be attending or have made application for 2020.

If you are unsure of what you need to do please contact Marg Klupacs( Deputy Principal) by calling the school(9546 4161).

Our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates will be confirmed next Wednesday 22nd May!  Let's keep these students in our prayers that they allow the gifts of the Holy Spirit to continue to be active and strenghthened within their lives.

Child Safety

St John Vianney's continues to hold the care, safety and wellbeing of students as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school. Our commitment is drawn from an inherent belief in the teaching and the mission of the gospel. St John Vianney's acknowledges that creating a child-safe environment is a dynamic process that involves active participation and a shared responsibility from all within the school community.

Are you aware that

  • All teaching & non-teaching staff members participate in annual Child Safety Standards  training and are required to read and sign the school’s Child Safety Code of Conduct annually.
  • Staff members have completed the Victorian Department of Education and Training ‘s on-line Mandatory Reporting module. The staff have also undertaken Emergency Management Training.
  • From time to time staff attend 'Child Safety' briefings to raise awareness  and understanding of this important part of  our job.
  • Leadership  will continue to work with our Education Board and community members to raise awareness of  Child Safety and our collective responsibilities.

Car Parking - pick up and drop off!

Once again please be patient and obey all parking signs and speed limits both within and around our school. Please  be mindful and considerate of all neighbours. Do not park on nature strips or across driveways. Please do not park on corners as you place people in danger as they turn.  We need to ensure all members of the community are safe!Thank you
