9/10 GIRLS NSW CCC Basketball Championships

Late last term a very talented team of girls travelled to Penrith to participate in the NSW CCC Basketball Championships for two days, to compete against the best players and teams across NSW.
Led by the very experienced coach Ms Kim Duffy, these girls gave it everything and played extremely well over the two day carnival.
The team included: Lana Duffy, Rebecca Salmon, Carly Salmon, Clare Vearing, Hannah Finemore, Grace Cornell, Brhiannon Perrin and Mikaela Cole.
The first game on Monday was against Bathurst, with the Mater Dei girls winning convincingly 32-15. The girls then continued their fine form in a strong contest against North Sydney, defeating them 31-17. The final game for the first day was a very physical game against Maitland, with Mater Dei once again coming out on top, defeating them 46-28. The girls were really playing such strong basketball against very good opponents.
Tuesday was expected to be a tough day, as the first game was against Castle Hill, who were also undefeated. The Mater Dei girls continued to dominate, winning 44-40 in a very tough and tense game.
The semi-final that followed, continued the trend of very physical and tough competition, but again, Mater Dei were victorious, overcoming Coffs Harbour 48-41 in a high scoring and physically demanding game. This fantastic win resulted in a place in the Grand Final.
The girls were very excited to make it to the Grand Final and this match proved the same as each of the others. Every girl rose to the occasion and gave it everything in a very tightly contested game. As the siren sounded, we went down 29-26 in a game that really could have gone either way.
Each girl can be very proud of her efforts over the 2 days and the team can hold their heads high and enjoy being Silver medalists at the NSW CCC Championships. Every girl displayed exceptional behaviour and wonderful sportsmanship and was a credit to the College.
A huge thank you to Mr Tom Murphy for driving the bus and to Ms Kim Duffy for the excellent job she did in coaching the team so successfully.
