Youth of the Year

Jessica L (our wonderful school captain) represented Killara High School for the Youth of the Year Quest 2022. This competition was held via Google Meet due to COVID restrictions and had multiple stages – Interview stage and Public Speaking.  5 schools that were involved in this round were Brigidine College, Roseville College, Loreto Normanhurst, Killara High and St Ives High .

We are proud to announce that Jessica Lee won the public speaking competition and was the runner-up for the overall competition in this round. The public speaking round involved a prepared speech and some impromptu questions. Judges were very impressed by Jessica’s public speaking skills.   Well done, Jessica. We are so proud of you.

Jessica’s experience:

The Lion's Youth of the Year club quest was a really great opportunity to get involved with a local service group, and to represent Killara High in the community. It was a great way to practise and improve my public speaking skills, and I really enjoyed meeting other like-minded and interesting young people with interests in leadership as well as different athletic, creative and academic passions.

My speech topic: Acts of Service - a love language

Impromptu questions:

  1. What policy/policies would you run on if you were campaigning for prime minister?
  2. What was the best thing to come out of the pandemic?

Athletics

Dylan A had a great weekend at the NSW Junior champs back in February, with a Silver in the 3000m race walk and a Bronze in the 2000m steeple chase, qualifying in both events for the national competition at the end of March. Congratulations Dylan and good luck at the Nationals.
