Year 8 News

Hi everyone
Our Year 8 students are settling into the routines of the school day. Our focus for students is to be in uniform, arrive on time with all resources and participate in all learning activities throughout class. Most of our students are on track with this and doing well in their classes. Students have a week and a half of classes until CAT week. They need to be focusing on completing work and asking questions when required to ensure they are prepared with their learning.
Year 8 camp to Karoonda Park
We are currently finalising the Year 8 camp. We will be going to Karoonda Park, near Gelantipy from the 23 – 27th May. The cost of the camp is expected to be around $550. We will get details out to students and families as soon as possible.
School uniform
With the cooler weather coming up, it’s a good time to check winter uniform items. We are 6 weeks into term and all students should be in full school uniform. Please contact us if you are having issues accessing the uniform items.
Team Building Day
Our student leaders are working with the Year 8 Cohort to decide on activities for a Year 8 Team Building Day. Our goal is to provide students with voice and choice in the activities for the day. We hope to have details to share on their choices shortly.

Lantern Festival Celebration
大(dà)家(jiā)好(hǎo)!(Hello everyone!)
Recently Year 7 Chinese learners celebrated Chinese Lantern Festival.
Lantern Festival falls on the 15 days of the Lunar New Year, which represents the end of the New Year celebration. To understand the culture of the festival, we watched some video clips about the traditions of the Lantern Festival, and made tiger lanterns together for the year of the Tiger. Here are the pictures about the activities.

Science
Year 8 science students have undertaken an experiment to better understand processes involved in the rock cycle
Some of these processes take place over millions of years
We have rocked it out in an hour .............................................
Art
The year 8’s have been learning to draw objects in two-point perspective. This type of drawing can be difficult to get your head around, but the year 8 students have done an amazing job of creating a city street in two-point perspective. This type of drawing is important to know if students choose to go into careers around construction, architecture, game design or city planning.
They have created a range of vastly different city streets of creative themes that make an engaging display all together.
Thank you to Elyse Derricott and Year 8 Art students, for the amazing Art displays throughout our campus.
