Message from our Campus Principal

Welcome BBQ

Every year Churchill Campus holds a welcome BBQ to welcome all our new families, students, and staff.  This year’s event was held on Thursday, February 24th.  It was a great opportunity for students and families to catch up in a relaxed atmosphere, have a sausage or two and to hear information from the Year Level Team Leader about the upcoming year.  Thank you to our music students who provided the entertainment for the evening and to all the staff who helped to organise the event.

It was great to see so many people and I look forward to getting together at events in the future.

TOP PERFORMANCE AVERAGES

Congratulations to all students who received a certificate for the recent learning behaviour update.  Students who achieve Good or Excellent for all the learning behaviours will score a Performance Average of 3.5 or above.  These students are demonstrating the behaviours to be successful and as such are recognised with a certificate.  I have asked Team Leaders to encourage all students to improve on their recent score and over the coming weeks they will be talking to students on ways to improve.

Team Leaders will be talking to students whose performance is below the expected standard and will assist with strategies to improve.

The Homework Club on a Wednesday night is available for all students who would like a quiet space to finish off work or to seek assistance.

My staff and I are committed to supporting students to reach their potential and so I invite you to make an appointment with your child’s team leader to discuss their progress.

‘DOING MY BEST ON THE NAPLAN TEST’

The National Assessment Program- Literacy and Numeracy will take place in the middle of next term from May 11-20.    All tests will be completed online this year. There will be practise tests in March and April for students to become familiar with the online process.

In order for students to showcase what they can do; teachers will be building on skills and strategies that will help them get ready for the tests.

This is not about “teaching to the test”, but it is about teaching transferable skills to other more important assessments and tests, including classwork, Learning Tasks, Common Assessment Tasks (CATs), VCE exams, and more general things like aptitude tests for apprenticeships and other career pathways.

College Athletics Sports

Congratulations to Forsyth on being the overall winners at our recent Athletics Sports.  A great day was had by all.  I was hoping for a Siddle win this year, but it wasn’t to be.

This is one of the few occasions when the entire college comes together and it was fabulous to see students mingling and participating in the wide range of events on offer.
