Education in Faith
During Lent we have been learning about the ways in which our generous donations to Caritas Australia, Project Compassion Campaign supports and change the lives of those in the world's most vulnerable countries.
This week we have read about Jamila and her daughter who are refugees in Bangladesh, Margret who is a teacher of the deaf in the Solomon Islands and Olivia who lives with her family in Tanzania.
The students have discussed why is it important to donate to Caritas Australia in order to assist those less fortune than ourselves. Currently our class has raised $16 and our aim is $25 by the end of the term.
Here are some of the students responses:
"It's important to donate to project compassion because Jamila needs our help to stay safe"- Liam O
"It's important to donate to project compassion because it gives a chance for people who didn't go to school to learn"- Dusty
"It's important to donate to project compassion because it helps people to get clean water to drink"- Alana
Bullying no way day
Last week the students participated in Bullying no way day based around the theme of 'Kind words'. The students read the book 'Say something' by Peter H Reynolds and discussed how the words that we say matter and can make a difference in someone's life. The students then wrote what they would say if they saw someone who needed a friend to play with or someone who was being hurt or picked on by others.
They came up with some great suggestions:

Mathematics
In Mathematics we have been focusing on number in particular place value of two and three digit numbers. Students have been also learning to round these numbers to the nearest 10 or nearest 100. We have been practicing these skill by using a tape measure to visually see where the number is in relation to other numbers and which 10 is closest. Students found it particularly interesting that when a number is in the middle e.g. 75 is in the middle of 70 and 80 that we round up to 80. Here are the students working in partners to discussing and convincing each other which 10 is closest.
