Social Outreach - Lenten Appeal

Harmony Week March 21 - 25

Caritas Australia - Project Compassion

On Monday March 21 we have a representative from Caritas - Project Compassion coming out to visit St Luke’s.  As part of his visit he will be talking to all of our students to inform them of the great Caritas Australia does but also how we can all reach out and help others.

Just a reminder that we are supporting Caritas through monetary donations through the QKR app for the period of LENT (end of term).  Caritas is an international aid and development agency of the Australian Catholic Church. They work with the vulnerable both locally and internationally, inspired by the Gospel and Jesus' vision of freedom and equality. Their aim is to restore justice, dignity and hope for humanity and all of God's creation.

Thank you to those families who have already made a donation.  If you are unsure of how to make a donation using the QKR App (the App we use to purchase uniforms):

  1.   When you press on the App you will see the St Luke’s logo appear, press again on the school logo which will take you onto another Menu.
  2. Choose the option of Fundraisers on the Menu.
  3. You will then see Shrove Tuesday appear.  Click on Shrove Tuesday and please make a donation to Caritas Australia. Families are able to make a donation sometime between Shrove Tuesday March 1 and Easter Sunday 17, 2022.

Jesuit Social Services

Harmony Week is also a wonderful opportunity for the St Luke’s community to contribute to the Lenten Appeal in support of Jesuit Social Services (JSS) - an organisation promoting social inclusion locally.

To support JSS, specifically the Ignite Food Store they run at Emerton, we will be having a Mufti Day on Friday 25th to focus on the importance of actions and the contributions we make to support the needs of others.

To participate in the mufti day, students are required to make a donation on any day leading up till the 25th of March.

Currently the Top 10 list of needs at the Ignite Food Store (run by Jesuit Social Services) are:

  1. Women’s Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Kids’ Shampoo and Conditioner
  3. Men’s Shampoo and Conditioner
  4. Women’s Deodorant and Men’s Deodorant
  5. Laundry liquid/Cleaning liquids
  6. Shower Gels/Bubble Bath
  7. Women’s personal hygiene products
  8. Handwash and Soaps
  9. Baby Nappies (Size 3 and 4)
  10. Breakfast Cereals (medium and large)

Any student who participates in the casual day is required to bring an item to donate to the JSS Food Store. Students not participating in the casual clothes day will be required to wear their school uniform.

Students are invited to wear orange (symbolises harmony), cultural dress, colours that represent their culture or jerseys that represent their favourite sporting team. Clothing guidelines are as follows:

  • Shirts/hoodies must have appropriate expressions/language.
  • Midriff tops or singlet tops are not to be worn.
  • Shorts/skirts must be of appropriate lengths (similar to school uniform length).
  • Thongs cannot be worn.
  • Normal expectations around hair, jewellery and make-up apply.
  • Students are to bring their St Luke’s school bag.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
