HELPERS THIS WEEK IN THE LIBRARY

Areesh and Rahim provided some wonderful help with the Stocktake, lifting books off and onto shelves this week! They have been some of the regular helpers during this very lengthy and physical job which had to be completed before year end. I am most grateful for their assistance.

VICTORIAN PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE 2021

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge was open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 17 September 2021.

Due to the difficulties experienced with access to our School Library and local community Libraries, completion of the challenge became too difficult for students to achieve.

However this Certificate is to acknowledge the wonderful effort students did put in to read books they were able to have access to and enjoy, the most important reason for reading!

Congratulations for your great effort in reading the books you did and I commend your dedication to reading your books either alone or with the company of your parent(s) away from the encouragement of your friends and school environment this year.

URGENT - PARENTS AND STUDENTS

ALL LIBRARY BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED BY MONDAY 6TH DECEMBER

Dear Parents,

As we are finalising our Stocktake next week for 2021, we ask that you ensure your children return ALL School Library books they may still have at home by Monday 6th December latest!

This may require some prompting on your part and perhaps a search of bedrooms and bookshelves to ensure they are all back to your child's teacher by Monday please.

Many thanks for your assistance with this!

Gerry

Year Prep / 1

Advent

The Year Prep and Year One students have been learning about Advent in preparation for Christmas. Our students created an Advent calendar, each day one student opens an envelope and inside is a message of kindness. Something kind, caring and respectful they can do at school or at home.

Production

The Junior students have been very busy rehearsing and preparing their costumes for the Peter Pan production! Can you guess what they may be?

Year 2/3 & Year 3/4

This week Year 2/3 and 3/4 have been working on our costumes for the Peter Pan Performance. Many holes and cuts were made in the old clothes. Today we used tea bags, coffee, tomato sauce and vegemite, to make the clothes look old and dirty.

I think it was really cool to see everyone decorating their t-shirt and tops for the Peter Pan play. It smelt really weird, all the combination of coffee, vegemite, tea bags and tomato sauce.     By Amelia.

Year 5/6 News

Fantastic achievement for a couple of our Sacred Heart boys.

Rumour has it that Hook and Bill Jukes, prominent characters in the musical Peter Pan, have been looting local trophy shops around the Preston and Reservoir areas. Truth is that these boys (aka Oscar and Zane Azzarone) finally received their well deserved football awards; Oscar for winning both the Under 12's YJFL Best and Fairest as well as his club's B & F (Preston Bullants) . To Zane, also, who was awarded the runner up Best and Fairest also at the Bullants in the Under 10's. Tremendous achievement by both of our boys. Mum and dad must be mighty proud! Well done!

Great stuff Oscar!
Well done Hook and Bill Jukes!
Congratulations Zane!

   Speaking of Peter Pan....

Wow, things are really hotting up, performance wise, at school. The senior students are fine tuning their roles in readiness for next week's whole school performance of Peter Pan. From learning lines, reading scripts, coordinating backstage crew, making props and being budding sound engineers, the whole 5/6 cohort is incredibly excited about the musical. In what has been a challenging year, it has been fantastic for all the children to have this to look forward to! See you all next week @ Thornbury Theatre in what will be an amazing night of entertainment!

Graduation / Fun Day / BBQ Fundraiser~ Netball Match

As well as receiving awards and preparing for a musical, the Year 6 students are preparing to say goodbye. Their Graduation ceremony will be held on Monday, 13th December in the school grounds. During this ceremony, the students will have their legacy item, a Peace Garden, blessed by Fr. Aloysius. Three roses will be planted.

The day after they will enjoy their Fun Day, @ Funfields in Whittlesea. To raise money for this event, the Year 6 students will hold a BBQ Lunch for the children at school. More details will follow next week. After the BBQ, scores will finally be settled in the much anticipated Teachers v Students netball game.

Vegan and Halal options will be available.
This rose, known as the Children's Rose, will be planted as part of the Graduation Ceremony.
