Tertiary Change of Preference events, hotlines, and other info services for Year 12s

Run by the tertiary institutions themselves, these events provide valuable information to guide Year 12s in finalising their tertiary course preferences. A list of Victorian Change of Preference support services run by tertiary institutions, including hotlines, events, and other activities is now available on the VTAC website here. The below document also provides times and dates for both VIC and UTAS tertiary info sessions to assist Year 12s (check websites for updates). It is highly recommended that students speak with the tertiary institutions they are considering to be fully informed about their options and confident in their course preferences. 

 

ComparED: to make informed decisions about your future study options

The Department of Education provides the ComparED website to help students make informed choices about higher education courses. ComparED utilises data from QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) surveys to provide valuable information on student experience and employment outcomes. This data allows you to explore and compare the quality of higher education institutions and study areas in terms of student experience, skills development, the teaching practices, facilities and support offered. Uni of Melbourne: Experience Melbourne Online – Monday 13 December to Wednesday 15 December

Monash Engineering Campus Tour – Tuesday 14 December to Friday 17 December

Want to know what it’s like to be a Monash Engineering student? Come to the Monash Clayton campus and they will show you through some of their fantastic engineering facilities and student spaces! They can also answer all your questions about studying with us. Meet Monash students, see the Makerspace where student teams get creative and visit their newest teaching space, the Woodside Building for Technology and Design, the largest Passive House project in the Southern Hemisphere. Uni of Melbourne: Explore Melbourne Tours – Wednesday 15 December to Saturday 18 December

Explore all that the University of Melbourne Parkville, Southbank and Dookie campuses have to offer. Discover learning spaces, key buildings and current student campus insights. You can also book a tour of their residential colleges and Little Hall University Accommodation. Find out more here. RMIT Parents Guide to Change of Preference live webinar – Thursday 16 December at 12pm

Receiving ATARs and results marks a pivotal time for students as they look at transitioning into tertiary studies. Whether your child has exceeded expectations or didn’t perform as hoped, understanding the Change of Preference (COP) process will assist you in providing reassurance in this often-stressful time. La Trobe Pathway webinars – Thursday 16 December to Friday 17 December

Students can hear about the pathways for La Trobe’s most competitive courses – covering options for if a student has missed the course ATAR requirement or prerequisite. These webinars are the best place for graduating students to find help and ask questions about how to get into their dream course. Monash Science Precinct Tours – Friday 17 December to Monday 20 December

If you would like to take a closer look and see where you could be studying next year, this is a great chance to visit the Monash Clayton Campus science facilities and student spaces. Get a feel for campus life and have a chat with some of the Monash science students and staff. Also, if you need some course advice, they can help with that as well. Collarts Summer Workshop Series 2022 running from 11 to 13 January 

These school holidays, Collarts are excited to be opening up their campuses to High School students to take part in their Summer Workshop Series. going into to take part in their Summer Workshop Series! Students going into years 10, 11 and 12 in 2022, or those that completed year 12 can choose from 14 workshops running over 3 days, and it's only $15 for a half-day workshop and $30 for a full-day workshop.  Collarts have a range of practical, hands-on workshops in Animation, Fashion Styling, Music Performance, Ableton, Pro Tools, Music Production, Improvisation & Sketch Comedy, Photography, Screen & Media, Audio Engineering & Live Sound, Interior Design and much more. AIT #GRADTALKS – Wednesday 12 January to Thursday 13 January 2022

Join this virtual 2-day event to hear how AIT grads turned their ideas into a creative career they love in Film, Animation, 3D Design, Games and Mobile App Development. This event will help you understand what career opportunities there are in the creative industries from the people who have lived it! AIT grads will share insights into how they carved out a successful career in the creative industries as well as share tips for navigating higher ed study. Summer 2022 School Holidays Creative Workshop: Fashion – 18 to 21 January 2022, 10am to 3pm

This workshop provided by The Masters Institute of Creative Education was developed for the high school student who wants to study fashion but is unsure if a design or fashion business pathway is best for them. This immersive four-day summer school holiday series features workshops and presentations led by a variety of The Master's Institute of Creative Education faculty and industry partners, all with the aim of showcasing the variety of roles and career pathways that exist within the fashion industry. Students get a taste of both fashion design and fashion business disciplines and develop a portfolio showcasing their new skills. Volunteer opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to develop important work and life skills – and it looks great on your resume or uni applications too. Sure, you might not be getting paid, but what you get back in experience is more than worth it. Study Work Grow lists several ways volunteering can benefit you. Visit the Youth Central – Volunteering website for information on what volunteering is, how to find volunteer work and organisations that accept volunteers. With the recent easing of COVID restrictions many volunteer programs are restarting and the summer holidays is a great time for students to explore these volunteering opportunities.
