Staff

Betty Risteska and Sook Ye Chan have done a wonderful job in their role as Education Support staff. Betty and Sook Ye have quickly become valuable members of our staff and have made a valuable contribution to our community and a genuinely positive difference to the students that they work with. We thank Betty and Sook Ye for their efforts.

I also would like to thank Rachel Wallace and Debbie Markovic for teaching 1V and Prep C respectively this term. Debbie and Rachel are very experienced educators who have provided their students with an engaging term of learning, thanks Rachel & Debbie!

Xmas Fun Day!

- Written by Principal for the Day Eloise and her assistant Bianca

Get ready to have the time of your life at this year's AGPS Christmas Fun Day! Some of the activities that will take place on the day will be dunk the teacher, jellybean guessing competition, face painting and chalk drawing! There will also be Zooper Doopers and bags of popcorn for sale, so remember to give your child enough money to buy what they want. Everything except the chalk drawing is $1. The Fun Day will take place on Monday Thirteenth of December, 2021.

There will also be the Christmas Concert where all of the classes perform a Christmas Carol at scheduled times:

  • Prep 9:30 - 10:00am
  • Year 1 10:15 - 11:00am
  • Year 2/3 11:30am - 1:00pm
  • Year 4/5 2:15 - 3:00pm
  • Year 6 1:00 - 1:30pm

Families are invited to watch their child's performance during the scheduled times. We hope you can come!

Year 6 Graduation

We were really fortunate to be able to celebrate our Year 6 students at our graduation ceremony last night. It was wonderful to hear the students share memories of their time at AGPS and to celebrate the achievements of this cohort of students. We were really pleased to be able to share this special event with so many families and other significant people in the students' lives.

Our Year 6 award winners for 2021 are:

  • Kitchen & Garden: Keira and Lila
  • Italian: Jasmine
  • Sport: Cooper H
  • Arts: Wyld
  • STEM: Ella
  • Citizenship: Emily, Cooper T, Jeremy, Lizzy
  • Academic: Bianca and Olivia

I would like to thank Simon and Clare for their tremendous efforts in putting such a great event together. To get an event such as this up and running in such a short amount of time is really impressive and one that I, along with the students, parents and staff, are really appreciative of. I would also like to thank Tamara, Sharon, Nancy, Sarah and Cam who helped throughout the whole process.

Excursions and Fun Days

Over the past fortnight (and continuing next week), there have been a number of excursions and fun days across the whole school. We have had trips to the farm, the city, Luna Park and the Museum as well as class parties, visits to the park and other fun activities. It has been wonderful to see the smiles on the students' faces as they enter the school gates on these fun days and I am so grateful that they have been able to have some fun experiences to finish the year together.

New Leadership at AGPS

Cam and I are a bit nervous about our jobs as over the past fortnight we have had a number of students using their well-earned KEFAR tokens to become the principal or assistant principals for the day. All of the students spend time visiting classrooms, handing out KEFAR tokens and lilypads, helping in specialists classes and doing other really important work such as making announcements! It is great to see so many students finally able to have this reward as many have been cancelled throughout the year due to remote learning.

End of Year Assembly

At 12:30pm on Friday we will have our final assembly for the year (and first all together for a long time!) to present awards and say farewell to our Year 6 students. Parents and carers are able to attend this assembly but will need to sign in using the QR code and show evidence of their vaccination to a staff member at the gate before attending.

A reminder that school finishes at 1:30pm on Friday 17th.

Thank You!

Thank you to all the members of our beautiful community. 2021 has been another difficult year filled with uncertainty and once again, the AGPS community has worked collaboratively throughout all the challenges and uncertainty to make 2021 as positive as possible for our students. Thank you all for your understanding, patience and support throughout the whole year - it is wonderful to know that we have a caring and supportive community throughout even the most difficult times.

I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved in 2021 despite the challenges. As a school, we have been able to continue with many of our improvement strategies and are set up for a very exciting period with our new 4 year strategic plan. We have shown adaptability and have been able to forge ahead with many activities and events in one form or another. Thank you to all the staff for their efforts to make this happen and their ability to maintain focus on the academic and wellbeing needs of our students.

But I am most proud of our students. They have shown incredible resilience again this year and always keep a smile on their faces and have remained focused through all the changes. I am so fortunate that they have been able to enjoy the final part of the year together with many exciting and fun events. The buzz of excitement in the school and massive smiles on the students' faces has been a real joy for everyone.

I think we are all feeling fatigued at this point of the year and are eagerly awaiting the holiday period. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe and relaxing holiday period and cannot wait to see you all again when we return in 2022!

Take care,

David
