Music

Written by Michael Lapina

What an absolute delight to have the music students back in the Music Classroom after such a long absence during Remote Learning.  Our students did not waste any time to get back into the swing of learning Music.

During Term Four, our students will be preparing for the Carols performance at the end of the term.  Many of the classes have selected their Carols and have been practicing feverishly to ensure that they are prepared for the recording sessions planned.

Our younger students were the first to experience what it was like to record themselves singing their carols.  Each student was given the opportunity to sing into their own microphone whilst the backing track was played through their headphones.  This ensured that we captured the voices in isolation so that we could mix and adjust the levels, creating a rich texture of voices from our children.  With so many classes that need to be recorded, we will hear the older students in the coming weeks.

Our Vocal Extensions and Choral students have also been practicing a carol of their own, which they will present at the end of Term.  This song employs harmonies and canonic fugal entries that our students are performing well.  In addition to the carol, our Vocal Extension students have also been involved with continuing the work on our musical, Aladdin.  In the coming weeks, we will record our Ensemble pieces so that the students can have something to take away with them during the Christmas Holidays to continue their preparations for next year’s performance.

We have also commenced work with some Year Six students who will be performing at their upcoming graduation.   The quality of their performance at this early stage is a great indication of what’s to come, and really shows how our Year Six students have embraced music performance over the past few years they have been at Saltwater.

Here's an exemplar little piece performed by one of our Year Two students during the recent Remote Learning.  I hope you enjoy.
