Robotics

Welcome back!

It has been fantastic to welcome students back into the Robotics room for ‘hands on’ learning activities after many weeks of remote learning.

Prep students have been coding using the Scratch Jr app. They have been enjoying animating characters and using the digital paint tools.

Students in Years One to Four have been introduced to the Lego WeDo robotics kits and have begun coding using the WeDo 2.0 app. We are beginning with sequences of light and sound outputs, adding loops and wait blocks, then progressing to add motors and sensors to our creations.

Following on from our Space Rover virtual incursion, Year Five and Six students have worked in teams to build Lego EV3 rovers. This has been a complex task which has developed students’ visuospatial skills. In coming weeks, we will be coding the rovers to move around and interact with the surrounding environment.

Reminders

Parents are reminded to ensure the Scratch Jr and WeDo 2.0 apps are downloaded onto iPads to support students learning. IT staff can assist to configure your child’s iPad so that school apps download automatically.

Prep to Year Three Coding Challenge

Prep to Year Three students are encouraged to create a Scratch Jr project to showcase their coding skills. This project could be Christmas-themed or celebrating another event or custom. Small prizes will be awarded to the projects that demonstrate the most creativity and effort.
