The Prep teachers and students are all excited to be back at school full-time. The remainder of Term 4 will be very busy, however, we have many exciting things coming up to finish off our year.
In Reading, we have been revising non-fiction texts and their features. It was fantastic to see students sharing their text to-self-connections from texts read in independent reading.
In Writing, each class have explored the text, ‘When I was Little’, by Jamie Lee Curtis and innovated it into their own book about the things they did when they were little. Each class have created these texts and have stored them in their classroom library. This experience allowed the Prep students to explore their own memories and begin creating a memoir of their own.
In Maths, we have been investigating the Measurement and Geometry concept of Mass. During this investigation we have learnt about using language such as heavier and lighter and explored the use of a scale to weigh various objects. The Prep students also learnt that their own bodies could act as a scale by ‘hefting’ different objects.
On the 11th of November the Preps had their first excursion to Fairy Park. This excursion took place as part of our third Unit of Inquiry, where the students explored the Central Idea, ‘Stories can engage their audience and communicate meaning’. The students explored stories told in different ways and saw some of their favourite characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Aladdin, Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. We had a lot of fun!
The Prep students and teachers participated in Book Day on the 12th of November. It was fantastic to see the Preps come dressed according to the theme, ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’. On this day, each class innovated a new text and developed their love of reading by exploring a range of books.
