Foundation Year
This is the final Foundation report for the 2020 school year. What a year it has been due to the impact of COVID 19! I can’t believe that the year is coming to an end with only a few days remaining!
Congratulations to the 2020 Foundation students for completing a fantastic year of learning. They should be very proud of the way they have constantly followed the St Fidelis Agreed Ways in the classroom and out in the playground. Each student has enthusiastically participated in a variety of learning activities and challenged themselves to learn many new things over the course of the year. It has been a pleasure getting to know and work with your child during 2020.
I wish all Foundation LW families the blessings of the Christmas season and hope that you have a restful and safe holiday break. See you around the school in 2021!
Kind regards,
Leanne Wenckowski
Year 1/2
This week the students have been learning about the significance of the Advent wreath. They learned that the candles represent Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Through Caritas Australia, they have been learning about people less fortunate than themselves and how Hope, Peace, Joy and Love are represented.
We would like to congratulate our 1/2 students on their hard work and resilience during the year. We hope in years to come they will look back and remember the challenges they overcome in this unique time.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe 2021.
Viviana Clarke, Bridget Atkin & Stefanie Carriera
Year 3/4
Thank you to all the parents in 3/4 for your support this year, especially during the remote learning time. Our students are very excited about moving on and up in 2021. Congratulations to all of our students on their resilience and persistence this year. The experience will stand them in good stead for the future. Have a safe and peaceful Christmas and we will see you in the New Year.
Katarina, Belinda and Graham
Year 5/6
Well, who can believe that there is only only one week left of the school year! After a very tumultuous year, we are finally coming to the end of 2020.
In Writing last week, the students reflected on ‘The Year That Was,’ where the students recalled special memories of the year, challenges faced, what they have learnt, the most enjoyable things they encountered and special memories of their friends and families. Finally, they wrote a note to their future selves regarding their hopes and aspirations for the future. These reflections are to be published into their own style of book.
In Reading, the students focussed on identifying various figures of speech i.e. metaphors, similes, personification and alliteration.
In Mathematics, the students continued to focus on some of the concepts of ‘Chance’ by creating their own games of chance. We look forward to playing these games over next week.
Our Wellbeing sessions this week looked at the topic, ‘People Problems’. In small groups, the students read through scenarios, identified problems and suggested some possible solutions to resolve the problems. They discussed the appropriateness of each one and then came to an agreement about which solution was the most appropriate and therefore the best solution for each particular problem.
During STEM the students are working in pairs to design and program a motion sensor racing car. We can’t wait to see their designs next week!
In Religious studies, the students continued to study ‘Confirmation’ as the Sacrament of Initiation that strengthens people to live as Jesus Christ taught and to contribute to the mission of the Church. Confirmation is the Sacrament of full membership in the Church and seals us with the Holy Spirit. The students focussed on the aspects of the Rite of Confirmation in preparation for the Year 6 Confirmation candidates’ receiving the Sacrament. This ceremony was held on Sunday. Congratulations to our St Fidelis candidates who have now completed their initiation process into the Catholic Church. May they be guided by the Holy Spirit throughout life’s journey.
The 5/6 teachers would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our Year 5/6 students, parents and carers for their wonderful efforts during remote learning during the difficult circumstances presented to everyone this year. It was an exciting time to have the students back at school during Term 4 and a great way to finish off an unusual year. Let’s hope 2021 continues where we have left off.
We would like to wish our Year 5 and 6 students all the best for next year on their learning journeys into Year 6 and secondary education. We look forward to our Year 5 students being our St Fidelis school leaders and continuing on the great work our Year 6 students have achieved this year.
A special ‘thank you’ to our Year 6 students for being valued members of the St Fidelis school community. Remember that you are always welcome to come back and visit.
We hope everyone has a restful, safe and enjoyable holiday break.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Mr MacGregor, Ms Sargent, Mrs Casamento & Mr Jennings.
