Learning Diversity - Michele Hedley

As the school year draws to an end and my time at St Fidelis ends as well, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful families. Over the years that I have been at St Fidelis, I have had the privilege of getting to know so many very wonderful families.  Thank you for all you have taught me and the support you have given to the school as, together, we have worked to provide the best possible support for your children.

All children have different strengths and challenges in their learning, both academically and socially, and learning diversity is about understanding the whole child and giving them the best possible opportunities in their education.  We want every child in our school to feel valued for who they are.

It has been a privilege working alongside my colleagues who strive to promote self-acceptance and value the talents of all the children in our school.  As a school we all work very hard to model acceptance and understanding of all and encourage our students to live up to our catholic values by treating others as Jesus would.

It has always been a delight to work with the children at St Fidelis. As the Music teacher and Wellbeing/Learning Diversity Leader for a number of years I have always enjoyed getting to know all the students and I wish each and every one of them the greatest success in whatever they choose to do in the future.

Have a safe and happy Christmas and my very best wishes to you all for a bright and happy 2021.

eSmart

We are very proud that our school has achieved eSmart accreditation and a lovely new banner will be going up on the school fence.  It is a lengthy process to achieve eSmart accreditation and our school has been working with the eSmart Foundation to ensure we are doing everything in our power to keep our students safe on line.

This is a timely reminder to parents that over the holidays children need close monitoring when they are online and parents need to be aware that the age recommendations for children to use social media are there to protect their children.  Young children do not have the cognitive ability or social awareness to be using many of these sites and they are vulnerable to many hazards online such as predators who are not who they may seem to be.

Please monitor what your children are doing online and consider the appropriateness of sites for your children.  There is a lot of information to support parents with these challenges – the eSmart website is a good place to start.
