Careers News

This is the last newsletter from careers for 2020,  I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas.  I hope you all enjoy the holidays and return refreshed and ready to go in 2021. A big congratulations to all students and families, we had an extremely unique and challenging year, be proud of what you learned and how you managed. In 2021 we will be reflecting on the unique skills that students gained during this remote learning time and how they will apply for their future careers.

Year 12 Students 2020

For our departing year 12 students good luck on all your endeavours and please remember, you can make contact at any time for advice and support.

I will be sending out  information directly for our Year 12 VCE Morning tea on Wednesday December 30 at 10.30am, this is primarily designed to ensure students have an opportunity to receive support and advise for the Change of Preference (COP) period which is open  until Monday 4 January 2021.

Students can email me to make an appointment for advice on 30 December. I will also be available to conduct WebEx meetings throughout the  COP time. Once results are released, I will be contacting students to provide advice, guidance and support to ensure they understand all their choices and pathway opportunities.

Year 11 Students entering Year 12 2021

If you have completed a VCE 3/4 study this year, please check your Scoresby emails. I will send an email explaining how to register to receive your results. I hope you are all well underway in your preparations for your final VCE year and looking forward to beginning of 2021.

If you are completing a VET study please ensure you are checking emails and complete any enrolment enquiries or attend any sessions requested by the organisation hosting your VET studies.  If you have any questions please contact me.

VCAL students, you should have the Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placement organised. Once students have confirmed details please email me the details so I can organise the appropriate paperwork. I am at the College  next week if you have any questions or require assistance finding a placement.

Year 10 students entering Year 11 2021

I have responded to requests from the SWL portal for students entering VCAL, please make sure you are checking emails and respond.  Remember it is very competitive to get a good work placement, starting early is key and prompt responses to requests are essential. Please regularly and respond to emails

Year 9 students entering Year 10 2021

This year saw your completion of the Morrisby report.  This should have helped with your subject selection and has hopefully guided your search for work experience in 2021.  The Work Experience week is to be June 21 - June 25.  Please make a big effort to start researching and organise Work Experience placement over the break. It is a great opportunity to research and go along and introduce yourself to employers.

As soon as you return in 2021 with the details of the organisation / employer I will produce the official paperwork that you will need to have signed by the employer, parents and then back to the school for final sign off by Mrs Major. This ensures you are covered by the Department of Education’s insurance and we have all the details to ensure you are safe and we can visit you during the program.  Without these completed documents students are not permitted to undertake work  experience placements.

We will be working during class to complete the Safe at Work General Module and the module relating to your area of work.

Year 8 students entering Year 9 2021

In 2021 you will be completing your Morrisby reporting in the first weeks of term one. This is a very exciting program and includes individualised reports and an opportunity for interviews with external Career practitioner, parents / carers are encouraged to attend these interviews and will be notified of times once we have the schedule.  I will be available to offer further understanding of the report and ongoing career support.  Information and permission forms will be coming home before the end of the year and will need to be returned by the due date. This is a great program and gives you an opportunity to further investigate your careers pathways and add to your CAP. It will also assist you in your subject selection and elective selection.

Year 7 students entering Year 8 2021

Congratulations!  You have completed your first year of Secondary School. In 2021 we will be re visiting your Career Action Plans that we started in 2020 and investigating in more detail the suggested career and study interests and what pathways you can take to get you there.

During 2021,  there will be range of Career related excursions and opportunities, parental permission is always required, timely response to notices is essential to ensure our students can participate in all these great opportunities. I encourage students and parents/carers to familiarise and visit the Scoresby Secondary Careers website:

https://scoresbysccareers.com regularly to keep up to date with information and opportunities relating to Careers.
