Visual Arts News

What a challenging year 2020 has been for the Arts but also what a resilient and innovative year students have had when faced with change and the desire to explore their creative pursuits.

Like every year, we held our annual Arts and Technology Showcase again, inviting local primary schools to exhibit their artworks alongside ours. Instead of a physical exhibition, this year we went digital – presenting works on a website where anyone from around the world can access and view the photos, artworks, videos and other content from 2020. This expanded the reach of our college into the wider community both nationally and internationally, which is a very impressive feat!

This year we had Knox Park Primary School, Mountain Gate Primary School, Scoresby Primary School and Wantirna South Primary School exhibit student work in our showcase, and I extend a big thank you to the art teachers who photographed and scanned works to be able to include them in this digital manner.

Another staple of the showcase is having our People’s Choice Award – an audience voted award of the favourite artwork from a selection of award recipient winners. Over the course of a week, votes were taken online to determine who the winner for 2020 would be.

I am proud to announce this year’s winner is Year 8 student Lea Rose Briones! Her exquisite cubist inspired self portrait was the clear favourite with its vibrant and colourful presentation.

A massive congratulations to Lea Rose and all of the students whose work was selected to be included in this year’s showcase. I can’t wait to see what students will create in 2021.
