Curriculum

Welcome to 2021 in the Discovery Centre!  We are extremely excited and looking forward to so many wonderful things this year. The Foundation students have had a fantastic start to their first year of school! 

Students went on a big tour of their new school where students got to see where their Specialist classes (Visual Art, Performing Arts, Indonesian and PE) will be held as well as other important places such as the toilets, playground, garden and Library. Foundation students were given the opportunity to explore the Junior Playground and play areas in a separate play time to give them a chance to get comfortable with their new surroundings. They will begin to integrate with other Junior School students this week in their normal recess and lunch times.  

It was a busy couple of days adjusting to new classrooms and routines. Each class worked together to come up with a set of class expectations that they think are important to make the classroom a safe and happy space. Some ideas included, to always try your best, be kind to each other and listen to other people's ideas. We finished the week with a dance with all of the Foundation classes in the Hall. 

Students will begin specialist classes this week, all classes have PE on Monday, please make sure your child wears suitable shoes. Please ensure that your child has a labelled art smock, headphones and library bag that they can use at school. Orange folders were sent home on Friday and must be returned each day. This is in preparation for when your child takes home books for home reading and will also be where we put any important notices. 

The next four Wednesdays are used for assessment - please note that this is not a school day for Foundation students, they are only required to come to school for their appointment time. This gives us an opportunity to get to know your child better and to see what they already know which allows us to teach to their point of need. Please bring your child to Reception and collect them form here at the finish time. If you are unsure of your appointment time please see your class teacher for confirmation.

Reminders

• As we are a sun smart school we ask that your child keeps their hat at school. Please ensure this hat is labelled.
• You may also provide sunscreen for them to reapply throughout the day, your child's teacher will remind them to do so.
• Please ensure you only pack water for your child to drink throughout the day.
• Please bring and keep labelled headphones to use while at school.
• Donations of tissue boxes to use in the classroom would be greatly appreciated.
