From the Leadership Team
Welcome back
Jon Charlton, Principal
Welcome back to School everyone, with an extra special welcome to our new students and families. While it is disappointing that within a short period of time we have gone into a lock-down period, I hope this time it will brief.
All families will have received communication from the School on Friday about the change in operations from today until to Wednesday. Information on our remote learning program can be found on KCEE via the 'Remote Learning' tab on the left-hand side of your Parent Dashboard.
We will continue to update you and look forward to seeing everyone back on campus soon.
As I mentioned at the Parent Information Evenings , it was so good to be meeting again face-to-face. To be fully human requires face-to-face contact. Presence, direct encounters with others, and engagement in the back and forth of listening and speaking is essential to our relatedness. Depth of relationship and connectedness is diminished if we are only able to communicate via technology.
As you know, at Kilvington we live and breathe community. Our goal is to provide students with an authentic experience of human connectedness – where each person’s wonderful uniqueness and difference is celebrated, where everyone feels safe, where growth and achievements are applauded, where support is offered in hard times, where friendships are formed and deepened, where much fun is had.
We are very much committed to building a connected and giving community – a community that is fully present and engaged and which regularly gets together face-to-face.
Kilvington 2021 themes
Our key themes for this year are Connect/Reconnect, Consolidate and Growth.
Connect/Reconnect - our focus is upon furthering our relationships with all within our community, making the most of our regained freedom to meet face-to-face.
With freedom comes responsibility. So it is upon all of us to continue to practice good hygiene measures: to wash and sanitise our hands and to socially distance as best as possible, and if we can’t, to wear a mask.
Consolidation - we will be working hard to ensure that any student who may have fallen behind in their learning, due to the impact of COVID, catches up with their cohort. We want to consolidate each student’s learning.
Growth - there are some opportunities for improvement and growth before us. More will be said about this at another time.
Semester one character trait word - Optimism
Last year, the Student Leaders suggested Optimism as our Semester One character trait word. Irrespective of what is thrown up this year, we want to endeavour to stay positive, look for the good in all situations, have a growth mindset, and remain upbeat and optimistic.

New Administration/Junior School building
Staff and students are delighted to be using the new Administration/Junior School building. And it has been wonderful watching the students enjoy the new playground spaces.
Board members met for the first time in the new Board Room at the last Board meeting of 2020. It’s impressive. More importantly, before starting the meeting, the Board gathered at the entrance to the building under the Aboriginal flag where an Acknowledgment of Country was read.
I wish everyone a most productive Term 1 and year. May we all perform at our best for the collective benefit.
