Year 10 ADVANCE Expedition – Exploring our own backyard!

Cobram Secondary College’s Year 10 Advance class recently completed their final Adventurous Journey component of their Bronze level Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

With the easing of school camp restrictions in Victoria due to Covid-19, there were still the NSW “border-bubble” limitations in place to manage, forcing the group to re-think their proposed expedition near Mansfield. A three-day exploration of the Murray River bushland between Tocumwal and Cobram was developed, allowing the students to walk and explore our wonderful local beaches and forest.

The journey was facilitated by the Mandala Project, who guided the students through a range of activities and experiences during the expedition to explore group dynamics and leadership styles in the outdoors.

After a very tough year of remote learning and limited community engagement opportunities, this was a wonderful celebration of the students’ resilience, teamwork and commitment to their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
