On Friday the Yr 11 Construction class concreted a cut section of the path that links up to the new water tanks. The students worked quickly to get the concrete laid before the predicted rain fell. Pictured is Hayden putting the finishing touches on the area by floating and edging.
For their first cooking lesson stage 4 cooked one of Miss Armstrong's favourite, easy to weeknight recipes, Singapore Noodles. The students cooked with much flair and enthusiasm in the kitchen producing a simple and delicious dish for all to enjoy. If you're in need of an easy dinner inspiration see the attached recipe.
Stage 4 English students have been creating and studying the different forms and features of poetry. They have been creating their own anthology of poetry ranging from ballads and sonnets, to haikus and free verse poetry. As a class we have been sharing our poems and collaborating with others to produce some great work. Featured is Xavier's ballad on the not so humble Leprechaun.
Yesterday the opens boys travelled to Orange for the Western SSA Gala Day. We got off to a slow start after arriving at school to a flat tyre on the bus. Luckily Doug came to our rescue in the early hours of the morning to fix it so we could hit the road.
The boys made a great start in our first game against Wellington High, both schools scored tick for tac but the boys clawed it away with some classy tries from Logan and Jacob to win 5-3
Our second game was against Orange High, a school of 1200 students, they underestimated us as they were joking around and thinking they were going to walk it in against us. To their and probably our surprise, we went out to a 2-1 lead which sparked them to show us a bit more respect and after a tight game at 3 all, they got 3 late tries to beat us 3-6. Orange ended up beating Parkes in the final to win the competition.
Our next game was against Cowra High and there was a lot of feeling in the game. We both traded tries, but our boys stepped up, smothered them in defence and managed a glorious 9-5 win.
Our last game was against Gilgandra, which is a town just north of Dubbo, we needed to win by a lot to make the semi-finals and we gave it an almighty crack. The boys played their best game and put on a masterclass with an impressive 11-2 win over them. It was an amazing effort to put that many tries on when we were all fatigued and the boys only came up 4 tries short.
It was a great day, we discovered that even though we are a tiny school, we can compete and match it with anyone if we work as a team. I have no doubt we could get any of those other teams on our day.
The top try-scorers of the day were Jacob with 8 tries and Logan with 5 tries. Josh Dean had an impressive day working hard and not taking a backward step when the big boys tried to push him around.
We finished the day finishing 5th out of 14 schools. It was an awesome effort and we are very proud of our day.
Thanks to Mr Blomfield for driving us there safely and Mr Corcoran for coaching us. We are very grateful for the opportunity to compete on the day.
